Phone windshield mounts that don't suck?

Postby snwtoy » Mon Dec 14, 2009 9:19 pm

I've tried a couple of cheapies off trademe, and the suction cup mechanisms are hopeless, and the grippy arm bits big and bulky, and they just break when the wife tries to use/force them to do something.

Can anyone recommend a good one - would love one that's robust and suctions to the window like a tomtom or navman.

Specifically it's for an iPhone, but don't mind a generic mount so long as I can get a charging cable in the bottom. I will probably be buying the tomtom one when it's released in NZ, but I understand that won't be till the end of summer at the earliest.

A couple to about 4.

I imagine you mentioned the Tomtom because you want one that works with the phone and the Tomtom? so an adjustable one?

MR2BOY23 is the one you've got adjustable?

Ahh, ok don't know where I got the NZ release date from then. I'm sure it wasn't originally going to be available straight up in NZ.

I see it's $199 on the apple store - is there a way to ease the pain a little?

MR2BOY23: yes that's the one. I've sometimes seen discounts on apple store gift cards - one could presumably get one of those at a discount to use..

i suspect the trademe ones will be the deal extreme ones, lol.

snwtoy - how good are you at engineering stuff? I have one of my camera mounts here that arrived without the top nut to secure the camera. If you could make a suitable bracket to attach to the phone, then it would be perfect. these bad boys clamp on hard and are pretty simple in construction.

since its one I wont be able to sell as a camera mount, you are more than welcome to have it for the price of shipping (typically $6.70 next day courier)
