Speakers / Headunit Problems

Postby Mr. Mainstream » Tue Dec 15, 2009 11:43 am

My Escort has a new JVC head-unit and pioneer speakers in the front doors.
was prof. installed. yesterday the speakers just stopped working and they pop and hiss when turn headunit on. i went to autospark place who installed and he checked it over and thought that the speakers are fine but the headunit has blown? :? headunit goes, and so does my sub and amp still. anyone got any ideas, dosnt appear to be shorting anywhere.

any help would be awesome. going to be a long drive to nelson with just subs making sound :x

I'd take it back and get the unit inspected. Warrenty is under JVC direct, so shouldn't be an issue.
Otherwise the installers made a mistake and its their issue to fix.

bugger  thought it would blow the fuse or whole thing. still cranks thru RCA's to amp then subs thou

DeeCee i don't have any paper work from the head-unit so think warranty out of question. it looks like a good install. i may have to disconnect a sub and run speakers of a amp channel

Did you buy the unit brand new through the installer or was it 2nd hand or from TM? As long as you can provide a receipt, then you should be able to get the unit fixed under warrenty. Proof of purchase can come via visa bill or bank statement and referencing against the retailer's sales of the day. Then they can normally print you a duplicate receipt if required or will process the warrenty claim.

If you bought 2nd hand or through trademe, the potential for a warrenty claim is diminished depending on the terms of the sale you entered into.

If you can't be assed with the leg work, just run another amp through the preouts on the back and run your speakers that way as you have suggested. Its better for the speakers anyway IMO.

I have a JVC tape deck somewhere if you wanted to plug that in and see if the speakers worked. Should plug straight in as my newer JVC headunit uses the exact same plug too. Can't guarantee its the same plug as yours though.

Sounds like the internal amp for the front channels has crapped its self, I Had a 3 day old head unit do this because the sub amp earthed via the rca's and demo'd my pre-outs :-( I Learnt to always double check your amp earths after that!
