Corolla Fielder Info Please

Hey all,

Just been looking at getting a new wagon for the business etc and love the corollas and fell in love with the fielder...Z model of course.
It will also be my daily driver, but wouldnt mind playing with it a little just for fun.

What I was wondering was, is there anything I need to look out for on them? Faults etc?
Any pros or cons with them?
And does anyone one know if any of them came out with a sunroof?? (cant find one bl**dy any where) Laughing

From searching around, sounds like its just the gearbox been noisy, and maybe the oil pump.
Found a post on here but looks like it got a tad off topic for a while lol
But yea, any info/help would be great.

Hahaha. Nothing on TS ever goes off topic, On the other hand I find the best Christmas cake recipes usually involve some sort of alcohol :wink:

The early 2ZZ-GE motors were prone to destroying themselves,putting a hole in the block.The S with the 1ZZ-FE (1800) is a good reliable ,long life engine(my Fielder is up to 172kms ,still going strong with no issues,uses no oil etc).I have seen a Fielder (1500cc) in a local caryard with a factory sunroof,the only one I ever seen.The only other issue I have heard with the 120 series Corollas is whining manual gearboxes.In my opinion the S Fielder with the 1ZZ-FE is the best all-round wagon for day in day out use.

The initial nightmares were predominantly the engines assembled in South Africa? Some problem with Harmonic destabilization at high RPM and failing oil pumps. It's been a while since I looked into it but the 2zz they used in the lotus etc seems to have lasted ok so far.

I agree with andyztouring though - the 1zzfe would be a better choice for general driving/company car.

Yeah all the oil pump failures I have heard about directly (ie not 3rd or 4th hand) could be traced back to either damaged, or aftermarket pulleys.

And I'm another that would recommend the 1zzfe over the 2zz for a wagon and everyday driving.

Oh and the other thing that all the ZZ engines seem to do, is wear out the belt tensioner. Which is not the cheapest of things to replace, but should only need doing once or twice in the file of the average car

One other minor thing with the Fielder/Corolla is the headlight lens tend to go yellow,but nothing a sand with 2000 sandpaper and a buff up with a polisher cant fix.

Wow, really?? I would have thought the 1800 would have been the pick of the bunch for the higher power etc...
I mean I dont want to make it into a race car or anything, but been able to rock it too 100kms in seconds would be awesome lol

In that case, the new shape corolla wagons are 1500 (im guessing they are 1ZZ also?) would be the better option?

1ZZFE is also 1.8 VVTI, without variable lift.

Me and my gf, just recently purchased a Black Fielder (with the Z too) its got the 2zz engine and goes well, but has the auto box which takes out a bit of fun - triptronic works well, and box changes smoothly, buts its a daily for the gf, she likes it, and likes the colour etc :roll:

Great car, and a fair bit of room in the back and boot for a corolla. Also if you using for work etc there are 4 tie down points in the back for holding down stuff (the dog!).

They look pretty good (ours has work wheels and a smal body kit - think just the standard Z stuff)

Pretty good on gas, but only a smallish tank

Also another bonus was noticed after we brought it that the springs had Waydo Sportivo printed on them. So bit of investigation and I find TRD stamped on the shocks.. Bonus! (Drives really well through the twisty stuff)

They get my vote. :)

The Fielder engine codes are-
1ZZ-FE=1800 standard engine with VVti
2ZZ-GE=1800 high performance engine with VVTLi
1NZ-FE =1500 with vvti

The letter on tailgate means-
Z=2ZZ-GE 1800
S= 1ZZ-FE 1800
X and XG=1NZ-FE 1500
X and XG also come in 2.2 Diesel

The NZ new latest shape Corolla Wagons use the 1NZ-FE 1500 engine.

1.5 is gutless.
1.8 non-lift model is best all rounder.
1.8 lift model is only good with manual box.

Drive both versions and see what you think.You may like the 2zz, I do, but just for everyday life I would find the 1zz much easier to live with.

they go ok we have a corolla wago at work its just a bit gutless down low and our work one is loaded with cones and car break in gear (all legal ok ) shovels and other crap it doesnt do too bad they do rev out

About $15 for a new pulley

My 2zzge is great its my daily drive revved it up to 8200 jut about every day still going strong. I have only just upgraded a few parts because I plan on making more power. No faults at 120,000km
