Intercooler Hoses & Piping: Where to buy?

Postby solitaire » Thu Dec 31, 2009 2:54 pm

Hiya,

I did a search for "intercooler and hoses" and "intake and hoses" but could not find anything about good places to buy (heaps of people trying to put on pod filters though!)

Went into supercheap to get some hoses today as i would rather pass my old intake piping onto the person buying my old engine (has all the right holes for re-circ, afm, sensors etc) so i was looking to buy some new.

Holy crap its expensive, a bit of pipe was $70 odd and a 45 degree bended hose was $70ish as well. Can't believe it costs that much (maybe im a cheapy but it kinda feels like boyracer tax or something)

Has anyone got any tips on where to buy this stuff?

Cheers :D

You could just search for Flextech on trademe..... Its good shit!
Its imported by Ron Scalan. He used to run Total Performance in Lower Hutt but had to close up shop because of his health. :(
But he still brings it in and sell it via TardMe :D
I'm not sure if he still does it, but you can ask for bends with extra long 'legs' too, sometimes it makes the install easier.
The metal bits can be mild steel exhaust pipe(CHEAP). Or stainless if you're rich! Or Aluminium pipe, you have to look for an aluminium supplier local to you(let your fingers do the walking).
Some of the silicone joiners you can get really are rubbish, not many ply, so they can stretch and stuff....

I just read your post again and noticed the prices you wrote. Oh yeh. Silicone joiners are expensive no matter where you shop! The bends are way more expensive that the straight bits too.
I made mine with mandrel bent exhaust bits(less expensive than silicone bends) and welded it all together. Then I only used straight silicone joiners to give it some flex and break it up so I could actually fit the damn thing.

Have a look at STA Parts
http://staparts.co.nz

They're in Airport Oaks in Auckland and are very well priced.

If its for your mr2, its just cheaper to buy the aftermarket piping kit

like $150 gets you the whole kit. Its for the greddy style intercooler though so will need adapting. You might as well go for the aftermarket intercooler then because I found they're pretty cheap
