Oh ok, so that list on the website is for DUTY then you add GST on top of that??
OR is that the TOTAL of GST and Duty?

i.e. It has a heading saying "Duty/GST rate (%)" and car parts are 12.5%

So if I imported something worth $10,000 NZD (inc shipping) I would pay:

Duty on $10,000 = $1,250

Plus GST on $11,250 = $1,406.25

TOTAL $2,656.25

Try and see if you can get the company to unpackage the item(s) and "rough them up" a bit and send them as second hand car parts - can't get charged on 2nd hand parts from what i'm aware.

Makes no difference if they are new or not, it is just value. This is a common misconception.

I used to work for a freight forwarder, and we bought in consingments for one of the 'alternative' shops here in Wellington.

You'd be amazed at what you can get away with declared as 'Novelty Items'. Always a laugh going through the manifest though.
