Out of interest besides STRX7 and AE86less, has anyone else here toyed with 3s engines into A series engine bays? - More interested in AE82.

Links to build threads (home or abroad) appreciate dif you know of any, or if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Reason if its not obvious, is just wanting to get all the info before deciding finally on what motor for the corolla, will likely be between 4age, 7age and 3sge. Obviously price and difficulty increases the capacity of these options, but just trying to get all the info together and then make a call.

My cousin has put a 3S-GE Caldina Beams + Turbo into an AE92.

very interested in this, any further build details? - why the caldina beams? did he source a manual gbox elsewhere? What did he do with engine mounts and drive shafts?

I would be looking to stick to N/A, but long term who knows, plus mrs has a GT Caldina that I would love to go down the forced induction route, plus somehow convert to manual.

He had all the bits lying around his work, He owns Endless Spares for Toyota on Rosebank Road, Avondale.

He did it for some fun, (to break driveshafts in his words)

Yes, I have installed a Gen3 3SGE into AE100 hatchback.
I have written about it a number of times here.

hey TRD_man did you have a build thread on here?

I have seen your posts with photos (its the white with blue one right?)

I can't seem to find any more details of them on here, - I did search before I asked.

hey man.
My tutor put gen 1 3sge into a 1990 fx body about 6months ago.

He used motor, box, axles, front struts, pretty much everything out of 3s corona gtr (old 80s model). I think most of the original engine mounts bolted up.

The car went bloody well when he finished it too. It was quite abit quicker than the ucol celica club cars.

It's the most powerful 3S engine that's easyish to obtain, that's set up for transverse mounting. If that makes sense... haha.

It's the motor that I'd use, if doing the same.

Altezza beams motor would be a lot more hard work, for not much more HP.

I meant as opposed to celica 3sge beams, which would have the manual gbox?

As I recall the celica and caldina beams motors are identical besides rockers cover plastic lid?

edit: ah easyish to obtain - they are more common than tyhe SSIII ones I presume

I have measured once my ST165 engine bay vs AE101, and they were very similar (strut to strut and length wise).

Cheers sergei - this will be in an AE82 though - from memory the engine bay is smaller - will confirm this tonight between my ae111 and ae82

Some of those could be handy for your use! I was going to do it a wile ago. But then got myself a Caldina, so that changed those ideas.

Question for you
What do you want to achieve?
- more power
- complete a challenge
- do something thats not too common

More power - easiest to go 4agte
Complete a challenge - build 7age
Do something thats not common - go 3sge/gte

If you want to go for 3s type engine maybe find a diesel powered corolla and grab the gearbox, gearbox mounts, driveshafts. the C diesel has the same bolt pattern as the 3s.
This might save you some stress with mounts and custom driveshafts

Like I said, the purpose of this exercise is to find out what is needed to make it work (as much as possible a plan never goes exactly to plan) so that I can work out if it is within my capabilities/price range/patience to complete. (i htink i said something along those lines in the OP? ... if not thats the idea anyway)

also in ae101 is a great car,

to be honest the 3sgte should be rwd or awd, 3sge for fwd,
