Was having battery problems, so was cruzing around with a battery from an enviromower to use to jump off.
Have also used sissor jacks LOTs while working on cars, removed tyres under sills for safty tho

Used a scissor jack without chocking the front wheels first. Car rolled back and the brake drum landed on my foot before I could move out of the way. :oops:

zip ties are a mechanics best friend...
ad to the list,

fan shrouds, radiators, overflow bottle, headlights/indicators


man iv done so mutch dodgy stuff it all kinda blurred together..
like used a random hook (lifting hook from a motor) to connect my clutch cable to the fork, found my old one a while ago exactly where i thought it should of been lol the hooks still working fine 7 months later

bolts in heater hoses and other water lines

using a bit of fencing wire to bypass a circuit

bolted two starter motor positive weirs together because i couldn't be bothered changing the terminals but a rag made a good substitute for insulation tape...

at mega meet my back breaks locked on so adjusted them right off and ended up having the shoe pop off the piston and had to pump the breaks once before i even started to get breaks... that was a very interesting cruse :roll:

also snapped the bolt on the side of the carb for the manual fuel pump in the carb (bolt worked as a pivot point) so ended up wrapping some weir around the carb and it worked for at least 6 months :lol:

im sure there is alot more but thats enough for now lol

Bottom radiator hose rubbed on an engine bolt and made a hole. Fixed with systematic application of vulcanising rubber tape, coke can and cable ties. Permanent fix. Hose moved away from bolt.

Sidewall repair for a puncture

Only found couple flywheel bolts for my new engine so put couple weld tacts on flywheel to crank, held well when hit with hammer so should be fine

When I put the bluetop in my old AE82 I used nothing but speaker wire and sellotape to wire it up. I didnt have a single peice of wire long enough to get to fuel pump so did the old twist and tape method to get it running. Power wires were just poked into the bottom of fuse box, never got round to hooking it all up permanently, was still running sweet the day I sold it 2 years later!

Also the outlet on the fuel pump was 1/2" and standard feed to front of car was only 1/4" so poked the 1/4" hose inside the 1/2" and put a cable tie round it.
Car went pretty well for such a dodgey job, so long as you kept it above 1/2 tank of gas as it still had the carbd tank and no surge tank.

Front half of car to car

Made a DIY shortshifter in an old 323 by cutting the shaft and brazing it back together.
Snapped it several days later whilst turning onto wellingtons man nightclub strip.. Replaced 2/3 of the gear stick with a pocket knife a friend had on them (stick was hollow) for several weeks.. worked as a better deterrent than an alarm.

I used an afm from a 3ltr v6 Windom engine to get my sw20 turbo going again :P
And to add another battery story, outside Queensgate in Lower Hutt my mates car died. We took the battery out of my FX, held it above his battery and used a screwdriver to bridge the gap so to speak. It worked...but we got a few dodgy looks :P
