new police mobile camera vans

Postby doin donuts » Thu Jan 28, 2010 10:22 pm

hey all

i was driving on the mway in auckland today and came across a mobile police van parked on the side, im used to seeing the mitsi l300 vans so when i saw this i was shocked, it was the latest Toyota Previa van, and yes im 100% sure it was a mobile speed camera, saw him setting it up.

just thought id let people know of my find as im used to looking out for the mitsi vans, not that i need to as i always stick to the limit as im sure everyone else here does too 8)

They now seem to have 4 different vans. The old L300, new Previa, new Mercedes and a new Hyundai, and all seem to have completely phased out the Ka band cameras.

The police have been using the Previa vans around the central plateau for a good 12 months or so now.

For a second there, I thought you were meaning that they had vans that were MOBILE while taking pics hahaha.

I just keep an eye out for vans on the side of the motorways and roads in general.
Oh, and I stick to the limits most of the times. ;) Well all the time in residential areas.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I'm same as you, usually when ever i spot a van ahead on the side of the road i check my speed. Then find its a courier/builder/plumer van.

At least in Palmy the police seem pretty consistant with the green van down JFK drive. I always make sure I'm doing 50k when going along there!

I normally see them everyday driving to work. I live just out of Wellington and normally see one down Nauranga Gorge and then another tucked in the bush 800m before the Aotea Quay exit! That ones a sneaky $&#$%

my old man used to work for Esanda Fleet partners from which the police hired all the vans so i would always get a heads up ;)

But now the hyundais and the commodore utes in the wellington region have caught me out once or twice :P
