Question on Gt Fours

Postby SIKBUZ » Mon Feb 01, 2010 10:22 am

Thinking of getting a cheap 1990 GT4 as a runner but it will also need to have the capacity to transport both my partner and I plus our dog.

Basically curious as to if he will fit if the rear seats are folded down or uppers removed? When he grows into his ideal weight up he'll be approx 80kg.

Anybody out there with these cars and able to advise on this?

Pretty big dog  Will be a tight fit but if you remove the rear interior you'll be sweet.

OT: Cheap + GT4 = bad news....

Yep pretty big.. Big puppies though.

If a Bull Mastiff fitted.. That should be ok then if we take the upper seats out.

Thanks guys.

The GT4 is cheap but stock and cant find anything wrong with it. Anything in particular to look for though?

How cheap is it and what sorta km's? A lot of people don't maintain them and problems start to show their ugly heads as the km's get up there...and they (or anything with a 3sgte in it) aren't exactly cheap to get work done on....otherwise they're good cars.

The previous owner of my car used to have dogs and he somehow got them in the back. But the dog would chew on upholstery, so that was a minus.

Overall, a wagon would be better as you'd have to flip the seats forward everytime you wanted the dog in the back, and that can be quite annoying.

I'm a bit pissed I can't fold the rear seats down on my Aristo.
We had to use my Partners 4 door starlet to pick something up the other day, because it wouldn't fit in the Aristo 8O
Yes the Starlet can hold bigger items than my Aristo

Haha, nice.
I once crammed a new house door into my AE82 FXGT. Had to pull out the parcel tray, fold down the rear seats and even remove the front passenger seat. Fit sweet as

Approximately $2k with 200k km on it. Seems ok except for the typical paint fade on the roof/bonnet and only thing I've been warned about is the gearboxes were a bit weak but this feels mint.

the gearboxes aren't weak, but they do frequently suffer from syncro wear that makes them a bit graunchy (especially going in to 2nd).

Also note that the boot in an ST185 is much shallower than the ST183 referred to earlier.

i had an 85Kg saint bernard girl passenger regularly in my 185 with no dramas ..

Sycnros are the only major hassles with the 185's

if you dont do sic launches all the time - youll be fine
