Looking for the owner of a facelift AW11 in chch

I sold my old aw11 late last year, to a young guy in chch. its white and grey two tone, black wheels and a pod sticking out the bonnet.

Looking for him as since selling my car to him he never changed ownership for about 3 months. And i've received a couple of fines since its been in his hands ($250).

If anyone has his number I'd appreciate it, otherwise I'll have to find out where he lives other ways.

And legally if the change of ownership hasn't been done - it's not his car, it's yours - so yes, it's legally stolen....

WRONG.

The legal ownership changed the moment he paid you and took possession of the vehicle. The registered ownership is what hasn't been changed. Talk to LTSA or whatever they call themselves now and go through the proper process, anything else is just going to cause you problems. People who say report it stolen or deregister it conveniently forget you are breaking the law yourself if you do either except you happen to be a lot easier to find so are more likely to have to face the consequences.

well its sadly partly my fault, as I forgot to do my half of the change of ownership, well, I did do it but not within 7 days.

I rang ltsa when I got the letter saying I owed money for registration (he changed ownership about a month after the reg ran out sigh) and they said there was nothing I could do cause I had to send my half in within 7 days :-/

I think I can remember where he lives but I'd rather give him a txt/call before going over unannounced/angry.

I had a very similar thing happen to me when I sold my old sw20. Guy said he would drop ownership form into post shop himself and off he went.
I had enough details on him that when fines came in I could get them redirected to him.

Post up any details you have for him and let toyspeed's detective force go to work

Also good idea to post up the car's plate, in case someone sees it around, might get his address that way.

the sellers portion of the change of ownership thing is irrelevant, its the buyers side that must be done.

That partly true but the online section where you inform them you have sold the vehicle still goes on file and could be usefull for exactly this sort of situation, you even put on there who you sold it too...

I got stung once when we sold my wifes car (gf at the time) and it was used in a bank robbery

Yeap, it couldn't be more easy really. I even just pay for it my self as the seller, its worth it for the piece of mind.

Thats the car, looks a bit tidier now and he has painted the wheels black.

As per above, the car isnt his anymore, but the registered ownership is, or some such crap. I had this same issue with an old familia i swapped. The dick didnt change it, so i dereg'd it :p Looking back, that was a bad idea, could've got me in a lot of trouble.

When you sell a car, make sure ownership is changed before keys are handed over. Even the LTNZ or whatever say to do that. I usually get the new owner to meet me at a post shop. Also make sure you have the new owners details (even if he fakes them, atleast you tried), just in case.

Going by the OP its now registered to the new owner, that's how I read it anyway.
