When removing the torsion wire spring thing from an AE111 boot, make sure you hold it up. Boots close quickly when not supported by anything and have a tendency to smack heads that are in the way = massive egg lump on my head, f***en hurts lol

While doing an oil change on my WRX.

Never having done anything with a subaru before, couldn't find the oil filter. Hunted around for a while, eventually find it about halfway down the block close up against the firewall, (couldn't really see it because it was in a hard to get to spot, but it was round and oil filter sized) with a strange bracket thing behind it....

Remove the bracket thing, go to unscrew it and it falls off in my hands. Have a look at it, and realise that I've removed the back half of the starter motor...

Go to put it back on, but the centre of the motor had popped forwards of the brushes, so when I put it back on the motor forced the little starter motor gearbox thing forwards, which caused the gears inside it to pop off where they should be and all jam up.

That was fun to fix.

And then it turns out that the oil filter is actually really easy to get to, it screws onto the bottom of the block in front of the sump. I had been too lazy to remove the underbody cover to check there.

In my defense, the back half of the starter motor was pretty much exactly filter sized and shape and I was going by feel as I couldn't see it:

yeah, I find things in very random places never would have guessed it where would a thing end up. It is like a challenge of some kind.
It teaches me a lesson to keep my things away from wife's reach (and that her tidy is very different to mine).

He did a similar thing to a guy down here with a 180sx, doing up a turbo or something. I'm not sure if he ever saw his turbo/money back. This is going back 3 years or so.

Iv got a friend who decided he wanted to see how cams worked so he took the rocked cover off his engine and started it. He then wondered why there was oil spraying out of the engine.
This same friend also wanted to show off his car which basicly resulted in him trying a j-turn and backing into a street pole.

Iv done a few dumb things when it comes to cars when i first got the motor mounted back in my corolla after having the engine bay painted, i was to excited i forgot i had a bit of wood holding the gearbox up and tried to push the car forward, that resulted in a decent clunk and my motor sitting hard on my freashly painted firewall which left a good size gouge in the paint
