even more OT....
talk of mercedes being in the V8s, though not with factory team.
From 2012 looks like other makes will be involved

Thank heavens for that... I might actually want to watch it if it was not dominated by the redneck racing monopoly

Really enjoyed it before it became v8 only

If anything the racing has gotten better
And is pretty damn close. They can have similar spreads over the fields as NASCAR running on an oval.

Anyone who refuses to watch it just because it is Ford vs Holden is missing the point. Hell DTM is only a two make series!

I'm not refusing to watch it, I'm saying I do not enjoy it.

Why? What would a different badge on the front of the car add to it?
Not that I'm against adding more makes, I'm all for it. I just fail to see why having only the current two makes it unenjoyable?
I mean if the racing was the same, but it was Honda vs Mitsi I'd still watch it

To me holden and ford are almost identicle (spelling?). Year on year the devlopment edges slightly further forward, i find it boring - for the same reason i find watching stock cars boring.

Back when there were sierra's and skylines and goodness knows what else (long time ago) yeah the gozillas almost always dominated, but I remember the fight for 3rd to be pretty entertaining and there were some great efforts from other groups in oddball cars (i think i remember even seeing a corolla at one point).

I guess the main thing about it that kills it for me is that unless they have a v8 sedan of some description they dont have a chance... it would be great to see some zippy little euros or the odd honda in the mix, really encourage inovation and cut the stock car motif.

Ah how the years taint things with rose tinited glasses :P
they were not as dominate as some would like to remember, it was pretty damn close at times. Plus in those days the fields were pretty small. As small as 10 or fewer cars at some rounds. Sure Bathurst always got huge feilds. But 90% of them were bit players who ran only club level most of the time or only raced once- twice a year.

The thing is the majority of the public do not want to see small euros and jappas racing. They tried that in OZ and here in differing forms of 2 litre touring cars. They bombed. The public here wants to see big, loud, fast 8 cylinder cars.

each to their own and all that, but I'm a racing fan. I will watch pretty much anything.

yeah, apreciate that the v8's are very popular - I never claimed to be mainstream... But i guess that why i don't enjoy it, im more interested in whats going on under the bonnet than how big it is or noisy it is. So to me every race is won by an 8 pot - not an event for me.

It would be like if F1 only had one engine - can you kind of understand my point of view?

F1 sort of does! they are all V10s :P And 24-26 cars powered by 5 makes.
:P
Anyway, I will never see your point because I think the racing is fantastic.
Only surpassed by the BTCC circa early to mid 90's.

Maybe thats what i have trouble with then... in F1 there are very definite teams... the team name (unless its a manufacturer) dominates as opposed to the engine... maclared, red bull - whatever.

couple of times i watched the v8's its was something like "griffins 80% fat free wheat biscuit ford is passing the sandy's discount cake emporium holden" ok maybe more sensible names but you understand  - it descended into the point of being only two teams... ford and holden. Maybe thats more my problem - only two sides.

I think I have a video on my pc at home of corolla's, commodore's, sierra's and skyline's in around '91.

Its pretty average quality but a really good watch.
