Slight Headunit problem

Postby true?no » Tue Mar 16, 2010 7:37 pm

Ok so during the week my radio just randomly lost reception(the little (st) that normally shows up is now gone) I havnt had a real good look at it but i've checked the signal booster thing up by the back window (its an ae101 trueno btw) and then this afternoon on my way home from the gym i realised my amp/sub thudding, not in time, seems to be about every second or so. the amp is flicking from the green light to the red light, none of the power cables are touching, need to check both wires goin into the sub box. my question is, are these things likely to be because of a common fault? i.e the headunit??

Cheers

the st is just stereo and is normally an indicator of stereo signal for reception - you may have just been in a low reception area.

The sub cutting in and out is a bigger issue. Commonly wiring is the cause, otherwise could be a thermal overload, blown subwoofer or loose/broken something inside the amp.

Check the wiring to the amp again, no strands must be touching. Check wiring to the sub, at the amp and at the sub.
Check the cabling from the battery to the amplifier and ground point as well.

Pretty much check everything lol

Yeah was going to go over it in the weekend and have a good look. Nah i no theres signal, i drive the same way to work everyday and never had a problem, it just randomly started? Makes me think the signal booster may be munted?

Amp not to big of a deal got an amp switch in the car so can flick it off, i did have the terminals on the subbox unscrew from the vibration so that will be the first thing i check.

re: reception - depends on if aftermarket or factory stereo. Some aftermarket stereos have boosters integrated in the units themselves instead of relying on factory ones. Then again, I've never taken an aerial apart to see if there is a booster on them or not.

Amp seems to have magically fixed itself for now so that can sit on the back burner. Radio reception is still stuffed, are the back window demister and the aerial run off the same "cable" stuff?? When i turn the window demister on i get about a 0.4v drop which seems pretty normal to me?....... So im still abit lost on this really....
