It has an LSD w/ 5 speed. I bought the car from a dealer and it was a trade in. Had a few suprises when i gave it a good examine. Genuine HKS super drager exhaust- headers to tip, Lowered, 17 inch speedlines, TRD Short shifter, Hks suction intake. The timing cover says yamaha gen 1, but as far as i can see from the head up its a gen 2.
My engine wants to be a 3SGTE when it grows up

It should infact be a gen 3, and it wont say anything about what gen it is on the motor, its more of an unofficial way of identifying them.

Yeah it'll be a Gen3 engine. That's why the ST205/SW20 Gen3 engine is the best swap for your car as it matches most of the wiring in the car already.

The Gen4 Caldina engine is the closest to 200kw atw in factory form but getting it working in anything but a Caldina is a bit of a pain and the Gen3 is an exhaust, downpipe and boost increase away from 200kw anyway.

stick a camry/lexus/(insert other toyota) v6 into it, they bolt up to the gearbox and only need to have the drivers side mount changed, and make similar torque and kws to a 3sgte, search for v6 mr2 on google

3SGTE makes more torque and power than just about all the popular Toyota V6's that bolt up to the stock gearbox. Also has a wider powerband. Would be a good swap if you want to be different I guess...aside from being different and liking the sound, I've never heard an actual good reason to get a V6 over a 3SGTE.

Ive seen a few v6 conversions online, not really my cup of tea. I have owned a lot of sixes in my day, and id want something different. How much boost could i safely run on my stockie till it goes bang? 9psi tops??

Personally i think it would be cheaper + easier to buy a 3SGTE/MR2 turbo E153 box. That way you can slowly build up the parts you need while still having the car driveable.

3SGE+T is possible, but to make it even semi reliable you will need some kind of engine management, and to be honest isnt worth half assing.

I picked up my ST205 conversion package for $2500 from a wrecker with warranty, and came with everything you would need for a conversion except clutch and gearbox. I still have the loom and 3SGTE ecu here as well if you end up going down that path.

What is up with NA 3s owners trying to be fast? There must be like some kinda zombie meat head disease transferred by 3sge germs (or something) that makes its owners come up with abnormally ridiculous ideas without knowing something simple like why an ECU upgrade might be required.

Reminds me of an apprentice mechanic I know who asked me what a boss kit was (it took some explaining to get the point across)

Look. To make things simple here's what I'd recommend. You'll have to complete all special races first however to unlock all upgrades.

You want to basically level 4 basically all areas, manifold, turbo, internals, NOS except for internal balancing etc which peaks at knife edging after just 3 levels. Note that you'll be upgrading your turbo even though the package description shows a drawing of a supercharger.

Some low drag wheel bearings ABEC 5 or similar will help a whole lot too- as will using CRC or other THIN silicone based penetrant/oil to lube things rather than thick energy sapping grease. If you must use grease in your ABEC 5 wheel bearings you will want to use the red lithium grease because red is always far faster than any other color of grease- especially black grease because black anything is usually bad for you and especially the environment and all of humanity.

Many people have also found that reclining the front seats will reduce aerodynamic drag of the vehicle if it has no windscreen, or roof.

This is much different to the gangster seat lean but only because people riding in aerodynamic seats will look like :D where as all people sitting in gangster lean seats are forced to assume the :x "grrr im a gangster going to pop a cap in your ass but im not a homosexual unless you want me to be" scowl.

Anyway hope i have helped somewhat. let me know how you get on.

but yeh guy who has patak car no one can tell you how much boost you can run on a non turbo motor

and the fact you didnt understand the reason for running a full stand alone aftermarket ecu with motec exhaust proves you have done stuff all research

and dont say no one has answered your question, almost everyone has said drop gt4 motor in and away you go

well if I can get 245kw by turboing an internally standard non turbo 1g
surely 200kw from a 3s is possible.

It may last a little longer with the turbo bottom end but it all comes down to how you drive it and more importantly the tune.

the difference is the 3sge is a peice of crap even in turbo its crap
