I won't deny driving my car hard either. I quite often go out to Scenic drive and Piha rd.
But what these kids are doing is flaunting it, doing skids etc in very public places, making a spectacle over it, and now getting the media involved.

The majority of us who do break the law every now and again realise theres a time and a place, not doing stupid things in residential areas, or where we can easily be seen.

yep their fa g0try is just plain annoying makes anyone who is slightly interested in cars look like a tool.

found the answer, have dedicated race car, a crap ass daily and join a car club and trailer your car to events

cops dont even look at me twice in a debadged ae101 gtapex with 14s
even more so when im in the terano (thats a turbo nissan :P ) towing the race car

but yes i do like a spirited drive up a back road somewhere and that will be destroyed with dorks like these

Seen the guys at Dragwars last night, Marc Elis was the person interviewing them, hopefully they can put a good spin on it. Other then that the guy they seemed interested to interview was ok but his mates.... all i can say is "R0t0r Bae"

the police are police, they are only the front end of the enforcement of such law because of idiots exactly like them.

be a good job if they ever called the cops and were on a database,

"ohhh god help theres a large dark man outside and he looks randy"

The reply will be "Sorry we're too busy picking on random boyracers and just don't have time to attend to your situation, give us a call back after when you're beaten to a pulp. Cheers.

one of the biggest things thats hurt the import scenes image is drifting cause whatever you see the drifty boys doing is what they mink on the road.
what your seeing now has never been so bad and i believe drifting has alot to do with it,and i still cant understand why you would want to do it i try to make my tyres last longer than 30sec.

i think that's big load of crap,

just because where not turbocharging fwd hondas anymore doesn't mean the burnouts have just started. import scene elsewhere, usa, aus, malay, even china has grown in a good way from drifting, they consider them real motorsports now, massive sponsorship, bigger then most grip events,

of cause the old folks of nz will never like this because there bound to there old ways,
its just the way new zealand has responded to this new event, sadly in a slight bad manner,

where you not present when the hotrod and muscle car era was alive?
i get told more stories about 3 window fords and buckets doing extremely dangerous stunts then i can count. the old hoons down at the local workman's clubs have heaps of story's even more brash then the hoons at the Mobil station,

i get my muscle car storys from my panelbeater who was very active in his day, talking about provoking the cops to chase them until they get home and its over because they are in there drive way, and the cops cant do sh1t,

i cant see how you can say its worse then its ever been, i'd say its the same just more people because of population growth, (and where in japanese cars not aus tanks)

you feel better now?
were all intitled to an opinion and as for being around way back then as such im not that old dude.
yes its a sport for those who like or chose to do so thats not what i said, i said they MIMIK what they see did i not?
population has nothing to do with it and many things contribute to that along with stupid perants that back there child into a high powered car then bitch and moan about what goes on!!!
realy dude weekend just gone saw over 3000 cars and 30,000 people have a 3 day hotrod hang out down thames, did you see them on tv doing what the so called boyracer does? i didnt hear anything so i guess your right.
as for it being alive its more so now than ever, to be honest most of the issues lie with maturity and too much free time on there hands, whatever way you look at it what they see on tv they will copy.
everyone wants to be a drifter they just like to practise on the road for all to see,as for being stuck in our ways?
one day the shoe will be on the other foot.
which ever way you chose to look at it the whole scene gets a bad name no matter what, and for those who choose to do things right theyll never have these issues at the right places.
as for what goes on overseas thats simple its not here is it?
i very rearly deal with boyracers as such anymore most of my customers are business and the ones i have overseas are horrified by our driving laws both age and what type of vehicle you can own based on age!!!
theres no simple answer but if you want to be a dick then the sooner you grow up it wont be a problem.
every person has the right to live in this country old and young, wether you like it or not we have laws to make sure of that

yeah cos all those 30,000 people where angels when they where young:roll:
i did say back in there day, not now when there older and more mature.

no, it was more alive(import scene) when it was all fwd hondas and corollas back when 17" wheels where massive, there was more street racing and illegal drags then nowadays, FAR more,
most everyone on this forum knows this is true,

every scene gets a bad name no matter what, someone has to complain, even track racing has its arguments, drifting just happens to be the flavor of the month,
last time it was the bogans of the 80's in there v8 whatevers, now there all called collectors of great muscle cars, even though they where built to do exactly what drift cars do(burn rubber). biker gangs where getting the agro in the 70's now its ok to have a 120+ dcb open exhaust nickel head Harley.
i hope when im grey and old and the other shoe is on, i get this kind of allowance and its ok to drift on the streets, not holding breath

how can you say population has nothing to do with it? of course if there are more people there is a bigger percentage of kids in cars nowadays,
there may have been only 3 hotrod racers in 1938 but that's because there was only 20 people living in that town, compared to 300,000 people.
every old timer i talk to say they had a streetrod when they where young, or wanted one,

there is a great respect towards drifting purely for the amount of control and skill needed, the ability to flow from corner to corner that has seemed to be lost in most people in nz scene, in nz its "do skids bau" attitude
its a complete waste of time, i have Japanese and American friends who wont bother to go see any drifting in nz because of this attitude, such a shame(for the sport)

Broadcasting Standards Complaints Authority here I come.

If TVNZ in particular is broadcasting rubbish write in, being an SOE they are slightly more responsive to the BSA.

In my opinion, after an email like that has gone around, presenting the ensuing footage as "normal behaviour" would be breaching standard 5 - Accuracy, as it would be misleading.

For the doco overall standard 4 - Controversial Issues may be one to mention too.

All in all though, pretty crap, but these things happen.

At the end of the day, The police are just doing their job, You do the crime, You do the time. Simple.

I have had my day with illegal street racing, I have tresspass notices for 13 different spots around Auckland for two years. Under the circumstances I think it was a bit rough that I was trespassed to a point, But being a "known" street racer at the time I can see why I was.

The street racing scene is dead as far as I am aware, Talking to the head of Operation Sniper, He says He doesnt get half as many calls of reported street racing.

Flat caps will always try and do skids in stupid places, Even the older generation, Ive seen a man in his 50's at the drags get his car taken away on the back of a tow truck to the impound.

It will never stop completely. As long as there are cars on the road it wont anyway

since your so passionate about it all go out and campain it accordingly,
i never said drifting didnt portray skills its just rally driving on tarmac.
there many sports out that require great skills and if you want respect of the public you also need to respect them cause as much as you may think its cool they dont.
a time and place for everything.
western springs speedway has been operating for over 75yrs but not everyone likes it thus there trying to get it shut down, and the main person pushing for it is 25yrs old!!!
maturety and make those that are a problem responcable for there actions is a step in the right direction, everyone has the right to live in marmony.

I get where Steve is coming from.
Today's rowdy young choose drifting as their form of motorsport.

Wouldn't be surprised if everything starts shifting towards the new 'breed' of Rally that Ken Block and Travis Pastrana etc are doing in X Games events.
