Electric cars are bad for the environment

Postby fivebob » Tue Mar 30, 2010 10:14 am

Except in NZ
Electric cars are being described in a new report as a major environmental threat.

The cars are often less efficient and more polluting than the petrol cars that they replace, it says.

The study compared the Tesla electric sports car to its petrol-powered cousin, the Lotus Elise, because of their similarity.

It says in four out of five countries, the petrol car was found to be more efficient.

Only in New Zealand - where the majority of electricity that is produced is hydro based - was the electric car considered greener.

The report's author and editor of the Dog & Lemon Guide, Clive Mathew-Wilson, says the car industry is selling a false image of clean, green electric cars.

Mr Mathew-Wilson says these cars are not emission-free, as the pollution involved is simply transferred from the road to the power station.

Great, thats just more fodder for greater fuel tax hikes!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

What a load of BS.
Anyway, to make electric car worth while in USA (where the article was from) they will need to build whole load of thorium reactors.

I don't really care about what is greener, but I care about not making Sheiks rich and depending on energy source that is finite.

Is it green to build more hydro power stations and flood forests etc to power all these electric cars?

Or build another coal power station?

Breeder/Pebble type of nuclear power plants are greener than all other options.

Doesn't nuclear reactor only used a small percentage of their full capacity most of the time? Rest of the time all the nuclear goodness just gets absorb into cobolt rods?

If the rest of the world utilizes electric cars more, then the nuclear stuff is better spent producing power, instead of being absorb into the rods, wouldn't it be a winner situation?
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Like the greenies will allow that. Probably sabotage it to make a point.

Yeah, most of greenies do their thing just to prove their point. Like those idiots who ram Japanese whaling boats. Like that fat douche gives a crap about whales, if he did he would be attacking places where they use dolphins and orcas to show tricks in first place.
