does anyone know the legalities reguarding mopeds or electric scoters and having lost your driving license??

dont you need a learners to ride a scooter anyway? I have never really thought about it to be honest. I just remember at school when some peopl got their learners they started riding scooters to school. But i would have thought no licence = no driving/riding anything

If it has number plate, you need licence.
You could put an electric motor to a bicycle and probably get away.

Moped is a vehicle. No can use.

You can only drive something that has been declared not a motor vehicle, or has less than 300 watts power, and is primarily pedal powered.

By which I mean basically everything on trademe that is advertised as an electric bicycle (but looks like a moped) is *not* able to be ridden by a disqualified driver.

The police are extremely aware of such vehicles, and you *will* get your balls nailed to a wall.

Don't try to be clever. Just ride a bicycle. Don't get yourself more trouble than you already are.

I know a guy that puts motors on bicycles as a hobby and even when he does one of those he legally has to register it as a motorised vehicle. So basically as Sergei said. Need Rego=Need Licence

so if you get D.I.C.d on a bicycle you lose your licence to drive a car but can still drive your bicycle lol i know its like that for obvious reasons but still kinda funny.

FYI, this means you can use a motorised bicycle as long as the motor alone isn't powerful enough to propel you, ie you still need to pedal but its a lot less effort than just pedaling alone.

Believe it or not, I've been asked this, and even had to seek multiple opinions including legal on the subject.

Thus the very exact nature of my replies. Also my suggestion "man up, ride a bicycle"

moped definition engine less than 49 cc output 2 hp no faster than 50 kph
any change in one out of the three above the vehicle will be registered as motorbike and you need a real motor bike licence

a standard moped need learner licence only but no wof

as for my ex moped i break all the rule haha

70 cc engine and street use exhaust derestrict the 50 kph limiter , and light weight rollers

just dun let the cops know and you ll be fine

they not gona stripped down ur engine by road side and decided if you got a big bore engine.

one thing u need to be aware of , i drove my moped on symond street at 50 kph got pull over why ? coz the road was under construction temp 30 kph so i got 200 dollar fine :roll:

Yeah and the cop tried to be a smartie, argued with me on the side of the road for over 30mins wether or not I need mirrors on my moped. I told them I don't need it because it's manufactured before 1 July 2000 as LTSA factsheet 43(IIRC?)

Gave me the "Don't be a f'in smart ass or else I'll arrest you" BS, sent me a fine 2 weeks later "Not up to WOF standards" on my 49cc moped, so I ask for a court hearing, they say I ain't getting one so I better pay up.

Then I didn't hear from him anymore, gotta love 'em, hope someone wasn't getting robbed or raped while the police officer was occupied on my devastating matter.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Ok, I think I translated that correctly back into English in my head.

You have *one* licence.

You lose that *one* licence, you walk. You might very well have two classes shown on that *one* licence. You're still walking.

They're one licence. They have different classes on that one licence.

I've been answering that same question from the existing (unchanged) legislation for the past two years, and that legislation was old when I got here. It goes way back, not anything new today in the rules.
