I'm unsure what that whole comment initially meant... was it in relation to twin cam engines? Or twin cam 4v/cyl engines? Or what???

Golf's never had a production twincam until the Mk2 Sergei.

in early `70 japanese were copying european, but in late `70 they got ahead.

yus the 4age was a bit of a pioneer not to say it hadnt been done, just on a very successful production scale

The 4A-GE was one of the earliest inline-4 engines to have both a DOHC 16 valve configuration (four valves per cylinder, two intake, two exhaust) and electronic fuel injection (EFI)


they cop alot of flack but hell how old is the design. they have done very well

someone calculate the rough revolutions a 4age would have done on 1 bearing a seal?

if it had traveled 150,000km at an average of 80km/h in 4th thats prolly 3500 rpm im not good enough at math for thatt but you can image that $&#$% has been wearing its ass off.
