It went to the states and the parts were used in Millen's ultimate Celica.

There is plenty of NZ new ones of those in NZ

The riser blocks could have been in the boot as shipped from Japan.

It isn't mine as mine never had the chin spoilers back then (at least when I got it and in the magazine article).

just a note about that blue GT4, wouldn't it have the rasier blocks

so what does the chassis info plate in the engine bay look like?

Thats the start of the chassis numbers that export toyotas has (ie not designed for JDM). So cars that are nz new or new from another country have chassis numbers like that, my old lexus did for example (was new in singapore)

I don't, Toyota doesn't keep tabs on indiviual cars once they are out of the warranty system

I reckon they probably would for the more rare and illustrious cars, such as the LF-A or the likes.
But yea, probably not for a Group A

If you can obtain the VIN number from an Australian domestic Group A Rallye and run the same search, and you don't get any information back from that either then I guess you may be chasing a dead end at Toyota.

I can organise that and try again ..

I know they can match plaques to cars , as my friend mitch needed his plaque replaced and got one ..

As for NZ new group A's .. I can now confidently say there are only 4 left ..

The white one was crushed over the weekend ..

I wasnt able to save it in time , and no one took the inituiaticve to see it more than just a parts bin ..

She is now a cube, destined for the smelters

Very unlikely
I know R&B in welly regulary serviced about 5 NZ new non WRC ones when I was there so that would suggest there is quite a few in NZ.
Not hundreds, but a hundred wouldn't surprise me

a few nz new models have come up on trademe from time to time, all of which have been 1997 models.

they carry the same 6-spoke alloy wheels standard on 96-97 JDM SS-III & GT-Four models. (Not the original prefacelift tri spoke blade wheels)

they also have the anti hood flex mini spoiler and heat lamp sprayers synonymous with WRC/Group A models, however the ones I've seen lack the WRC spec 2 post spoiler on extender blocks in favour of the Celica facelift 3 post low spoiler

Ive always loved them ay. But the NZ new ones are just SO pricey. I mean yes they are rare but in the last year the 3 NZ new ones I have seen have all been 12k+. I mean from a collectors stand point I would pay that much but from a price = performance bracket there are better options out there. But to be honest at this point being in the middle of saving for a version 9 I am genuinly concerned that I could be lead astray by a tidy NZ new st205... They just look SO good

24k - ouch
sunroof - nice
leather seats - nice
hood spoiler, headlight sprayers, front air deflectors & steel wheel turbo borrowed from wrc/group a pack - nice
low kms - awesome
280km speedo unrestricted - the fun starts at 200kph
unmolested - yeah ok why not

vs an average jdm's features
low price tag, big bang for buck (+15k left in your pocket to spend on mods & maintenance -- easily spent in the first two years)
auto aircon/ climate control
power folding mirrors
jdm facelift tail lights + (jdm facelift projector head lamps for 1998)

What are you comparing the second segment to?

You shouldn't buy this car to molest it (aka modify). You should buy this car to keep it in the garage. To molest you could buy something half the price and do whatever you want, and let someone else preserve this original example.

Yes I totally agree with you there sergei

Hence why I dont think these are worth the money from a performance perspective but from a collectors perspective it might just be :)

no I wouldn't molest it either.

but then I'm never happy with the standard package, I like being the only one with certain things, like a toyota red interior :P

and I like jap performance parts throughout my car like hks, etc.

I like tidy, tasteful and not stock.

semi racing, very streetable, no chinacrap.
