Storage and Working on of a Project.

Post by Barark »

Hey all me again, im just about to buy i daily driver so i can put some serious effort into my FXGT. Now i know most of you do your work at your home or in your garage but at this point in time i am out of space, has anyone considered renting a small factory for storage and mantainence/working on thier cars?

you mean like a lockup? Just get a couple of people together who would be keen and rent one. Not TOO expensive but plenty of room.

Yeah the key would be to finding some like minded people keen on splitting the cost. As it can cost a lot for what you're after depending on location etc.

yea no point getting one with unreliable people. Then you have to pay more when they pike out and you are stuck with a big garage and a car that you cant work on because you are paying for th garage and cant leave it because you have nowhere else to put the car lol

Unfortunately auckland lockups are pretty cost prohibitive. Have been looking into it, and its more than I am prepared to pay on something I don't own, so at, I just make do with the space I have.

Hamilton or thereabouts have some good prices, but then you need to commute. There is a place in East auckland that seems to be the cheapest around, but have heard some rumours of security issues there.

I guess my next question is does anyone currently have a lockup with space for a car, i would be happy to pay some in advance or a small bond type payment. Not really worried where in auckland.

Just for anyone interested, 5mx3m storage unit, $240per month. This does sound reasonable if im storing but might not work well if im wanting to buy parts for the car as well.

Yea that doesnt leave you much room for anything apart from the car really. Fine to store a car but if you want to work on it then its not really ideal

try getting a barn on someones farm, a guy i used to work with has done it with a couple of guys, only thing was something fell over in the barn and gouged his freshly painted guard, so gotta be strict with the people saying tidy up before you leave and no dodgey stacking

Do you have much land where u are living??
I hired a 40ft container and sat it beside my house and thats only costing me $180 per month. Can also get 20fts as well for slightly less

Or I also hire 4x 20ft containers at royal wolf in east tamaki...could give them a call for a price (not sure what they would charge the public) but its behind elec fences and gates with cameras and security guards lol.
works great for me cause you can go in anytime you want, 365 days a year.

Hi,
Think about finding a place to live with garaging... If you were prepared to pay $240/month for a tiny storage place then add this to the rent you pay now.
It's waay more convenient to be able to work on your car where you live. It's a big pain to have to drive somewhere to work on your car.

From your posts about sorting out your fxgt I would think you might not need to buy a daily driver... most of what you could do to your car could be done in a series of 1 day missions.
If you don't need a daily driver then you can afford to do up your fxgt sooner.

Ken
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

This is very true, However im still learning, i didn't grow up with cars, and my friends are not car people, i want to do stuff myself more than anything and to be honest i may take longer than a day to do things. I am mechanically minded and have alot of maintainance certs, i would love to just be able to tinker and pull apart the car without having to worry about getting it back together to head to work :P

You are right however, it is a good time to look for a place to live with a garage.

Only way to do it IMO. If you have to travel to the car to do work on it you'll end up not doing the work and the project not getting done.

Got to have it in your own garage.
