My project this weekend is to find and mount a proper Extinguisher, help comments is very helpful!

Ok so what does everyone use in their cars for fire extinguishers?

-Powder or Foam
-1kg 2kg 5kg ect
-Where have you mounted it?

For motorsport use a A:B:E (powder) 1Kg model WITH a metal bracket. I believe mitre ten had suitable ones for $30ish . Look for the one with "CAMS approved " on it as these have the proper mounting bracket .

I always mount mine in the passengers foot well, with 2 10mm bolts going through the floor and a big washer + nylock nut on the bottom. It's quick and easy.

but if you want to be able to put out a fire bigger than a match stick then the bigger the better

Agreed. I've got a 2kg Wormald one... They cost more but are worth it if you're doing a bit of track work. Especially if the trackdays you're doing are run by independent people without all the gear.

2kg mounted in front of drivers seat across the car.
.9kg mounted longways in front of gear lever so passenger has something solid to throw at me!! should really put this one in front of passenger seat to make it easier for him/her to reach!!!!!

Sorry to go a little OT. Does the bracket that the fire extinguisher is held in have to be bolted directly to the floor? Can i have a bracket that utilizes the seat mounting bolts then have the extinguisher bracket bolt to that?

yes. have done this many times in order for street cars to comply without them drilling holes in their car , in fact is probably stronger than bolting through floor if designed correctly.

I did this to mount the extinguisher in the Supra for the megameet trackday in 07, not much room under those seats so couldnt move the seat forward for the above mentioned reason.

Corolla should be fine though, had the Trueno one mounted infront of the drivers seat for ages with no issues

I have a 1kg extinguisher for Superexpensive in the garage with the metal mounting bracket that i was going to mount in my car in case of track days etc, and was just going to drill a hole in my floor and put sum decent bolts and washers+nuts. But I wasn't sure if this was legal or not, doesn't seem right drilling through the floor. is the WOF man going to pull me up for it?
And also wheres good to go get sum bolts nuts that would be suitable?

Wof guys shouldn't pull you up on it. A wof is mainly for safety, and a fire extinguisher mounting really has nothing to do with that.

just make sure you use 8mm bolts with panel washers on the underside with either nylock nuts or 2 locking nuts.

And be careful not to drill through your fuel and/or brake lines :oops:

^^ Lol nice one, that's pretty silly really, so would be something i'd do :lol:

As for WOF, I drilled one into the floor of my KP starlet and it went through fine. Just make sure you use the correct (minimum) sizes bolts / washers, otherwise just wasting your time as it won't be allowed on the track. (I assume)

that reminds me of the time i was tinkering with my mates car stereo to get rid of all the distortion.

I got him to unscrew the amp from the floor in the boot, it started making a loud hissing sound.. he said, what the hell is that? I asked if he had a spare wheel under there.
