Just save up, cheap paint jobs just arent worth the money. That said, if you're prepared to put in a few weekends work, its not terribly difficult to paint a car. Just really really really time consuming.
In fact, have a search and see if there is a build thread from RomanV where he painted his MR2 black :lol:

if you can prep the car yourself then yes it will be much cheaper,
im doing most of the prep myself right now,
the painter said there will be no guarantee on the finish if he doesn't prep it, im fine with that adage, depends how fussy you want to be really,
my car wont be a show any time soon, :P

Actually if you're after an AE82 (85-88?) then I dont know if they ever came factory black? Would be very uncommon. AE92 and AE101's, I think black is the most common :lol:
