Creaking+knocking sounds?

Postby EviLClouD » Sat May 15, 2010 10:58 am

Hi guys, i've got two little problems/annoyances with my car.
1) When ever i apply the brakes whilst travelling low speed, it makes a creaking sound. (kind of the like the sound of a old rusted spring)
2) When i turn and go over bumps, knocking sound occurs.

Car is 2001 Toyota Altezza AS200. Front Lower ball joints have been replaced. Brake pads are near new and have recently been de-glazed and cleaned to see if it was the problem.

Anyone able to shed some light to this?
Thanks in advance :)

With the brakes. Can you feel the vibration through the pedal?

The knocking sounds like roll bar links or bushes.

No vibration.

Sound starts at 8 secs, and my foot is pressing down on the brake to create that creaking sound...
Thanks

the creaking noice isn't coming from the pedal box is it? alot of toyota pedal boxes start to fracture and creak and groan when you apply the brakes and also in a manual when you put your foot on the clutch, especially if running a heavier pressure plate

i think so... The sound in the clip is magnified of course, its not that loud, but you guys get the idea of the sound. It happrns when brake pedal is pressed fully down or nearly all the way. Half way/slight press doesnt make that sound. Could it be a spring in the brake pedal?
Cheers

wheel bearing scan give that creek also. iv seen it in quite a few cars. they dont rumble at speed and you cant feel it. just with the weight on them and the different forces applied when the car pushed forward but the brakes hold the wheel/hub in place. iv also replaced a handful of front wheel bearings on altezzas.

Got a check/quote from pitstop and they said it was the brake reaction arm bushes. Excessive play on both sides...does this sound about right?

sounds like the lower castor arm

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_2001_T ... _4802.html

part number 48660-53010

jzx90/100's chasers/cresta and mark II's have the same issue

you can metal sleeve them, or get cusco or ikey-formula arms that are stronger and less pron to wearing

TRD do a reinforced bush, not like a genuine part that has the arm attached to it, Retail is like $52.22+ Tax as of 30th March.

Part number is 48655-SE100. North Shore Toyota holds these in stock as it is rather common for these to crap out, especially when the vehicle is lowered.

indeed its comin as dogs balls

TRD is a good option to go down, but they will do it again, regardless of how you treat the car, but it is the cheapest option

im trying to find a yahoo jp link you can normaly pick up, a metal arm and rose jointed end as a pair for around $350nzd

Sweet. The car's not lowered. Will it still wear as quick and require replacing every 1-2 years?

Shouldnt need replacing as often on a car that is standard height.

Once they are changed you WILL feel a difference in cornering and especially under hard braking, it will feel more stable.

Bumping up an old post lol. So sounds still here but i think i may have diagonsed the cause. When fresh brake pad paste is applied between the pads and anti rattle clips/pads the sound goes away. But after a month or so of driving, the sounds back. I've done this a couple of times and got the same result each time. So does this mean i would need new anti rattle clips/pads?

Thanks
