If you want one you can buy one, ring Prodrive, M-Sport, TTE ;)

But yes the homolgation rules are much different for group a than for the current class and next years new class also. The corolla is the only choice if they do go back into WRC, it makes the most business sense and after all thats why manufacturers are there. Celicas are to big to be competitive in the wrc as are wrx's and evo's. Hence the move into an S2000 style class :)

Not really, the Celica is a tube frame with fibreglass dropped over it, WRC cars still use the basic bodyshell.

either way the car will be based on something, at least in appearance so they can sell more of that car. presently there's not much of an offering. so hopefully they release the ft-hs concept :D

Aren't all the new S2000 rally cars little? So wouldn't it be based on the Vitz? Makes sense since they're near on close enough to 1600 and have been turboed before, so Toyota can tear one apart and have a see how to make it go quick.

kankunnen who is now an FIA advisor has also confirmed toyota are interested:

http://www.sportti.com/uutinen.asp?CAT=1-2&ID=175492

badly google translated:

Jyväskylän MM- rally involved Juha Kankkunen currently works as an international automobile federation FIA President Jean Todt as a consultant Rally Championship. Kankkusella is also a lot of inside information about the World Rally Championship series of possible reforms. Kankkunen confirmed Monday Sportti.com to really return to negotiations with Toyota's World Rally Championship series.

- Yes, the interest in the Toyota has a great deal. The other characters, such as KIA, Nissan and Proton are interested. It all depends on the rules and the cars would remain identical even four years, commented Kankkunen .

Kankkusen the World Rally Championship series should be renewed for a lot. All kisajärjestäjät Kankkusta not satisfied .

- Rengassaannöt should put new stuff. Sufficient for the four rings would be over . Bensasäännöissäkin enough to take ysikasia tank and go , "said Kankkunen sääntöehdotuksistaan .

- Kisa amount sufficient to ten o'clock season. Games could be longer . Jyväskylä get a better race if the interim service would go somewhere else . Now runs 150 km away , but because that can be achieved to refuel gas. Intermediate maintenance to get better and better links to the north, Kankkunen said.

- Run a lot of races where there is no rhyme or reason. Even Jordan, which runs the desert and turned a brand . Also the idea of Abu Dhabi's rally is totally stupid . Traditional games should definitely be included and RAC should run in late November . Monte Carlo should definitely be a season avauskisana , comment and criticize Kankkunen also many World Rally Championships , however, arrangements for appointing individual .

I wouldn't be relying too much on any information from the many 'expert' web sites like the ones you're quoting. Most of the information is nothing more than rumour, hearsay and speculation.

What would be the point in going back into WRC its dying it has very few manufacturers in it now and is'nt a focal point it once was.

I see Toyota going more into Le Mans GT-1 type racing and sustaining there endurance programme if anything with the LFA before looking at a series like WRC.

GT1 are dropped from Le Mans now. This year was the last year for the Class their.
Their is still the FIA GT1 class though.
I would think GT2 would suit them more, but I'm not sure on the rules re how many cars need to be built to allow an entry.

WRC is on the up if the new rules are sorted ok.

WRC's not dying at all. If anything it's about to enter the most exciting phase for a number of years.

But Why go back when they have been there and done that I don't see Toyota doing this.

I do see them keep on going with there endurance program though and I like the idea of them entering FIA GT-1 class aswell following Nissan Aston Martin and others. But Revvy is probably right GT-2 with the LFA is probably the way foward.

Neither do I. Which is why I suggested that the scribbling on various websites ought be viewed cautiously.

Having said that, why go back? Well it is 11 years since they last contested the WRC and it is something they know they can be competitive in.

They may have been there and done it before but motorsport is a way of marketing a car and there most popular car is the Corolla, why would they not rally this to keep pushing the brand?? Not going to sell too many LFA's no matter how well they do.
