If the filter is in the same location as the pic on the link then that is a big step down from factory.

It's just sitting there in the middle of the engine bay sucking up hot air. It has no cold air flowing onto it.

The factory airbox is sealed and has a bit of ducting to behind the headlight.

So is it in the same location as in that pic? or more behind the headlight? Do you still have the factory airbox as you could always modify it and get the filter to sit in that and then get some cheap flexi pipe and duct it from bumper.

As said, it's sucking in hot air. Cold things have less energy and expand less, so you're basically getting less air when it's hot.

My advice is to replace that Simota filter with the factory airbox and get yourself a decent panel filter replacement from A'PEXi or similar.

From there, with $1500 or so to spend you don't have much to play with. As said, you won't get any performance worth talking about out of that. For $1500 you should be able to get a full exhaust system made up, including headers. That's your power basics for a non-turbo sorted, but it won't do much for you.

I'd go with the suggestion of suspension mods, or brakes. Use the small amount of power you have and work on being able to maintain that power as you drive with handling upgrades.

EDIT - If you want to talk about body kits then you should probably not be worrying about modifying your car for performance.

man forget about exhausts, all its gonna do is make your car louder, and possibly slower.

i was serious when i mentioned nitrous for go-fast - at least on your budget. if you are handy with tools you could possibly pick up the bits for a 4AGZE conversion. if thats not your bag, then spend it on suspension... even standard replacements will most likely be an upgrade since the chances are the cars current suspension is old and rooted.

Don't put a body kit on it. Having a body kit is more generic than not having one IMO.

4AGE engines are pretty well tuned from the factory, as everyone else is saying, you won't get noticeable improvements out of it with $1500. Waiheke has some wicked roads, make the suspension right with new bushes etc and go have so fun.

Honestly i have the same car as you and you will get the most satisfaction from the results by doing the suspension.

Search.

Seriously, yes the forum is here for asking questions, but get off your ass and do some searching online, or use the forum search function.
