Using fittings from GSS for brake lines

Hey all

After forking out WAY too much on some brake lines from RaceBrakes (which look very awesome with nice quality fittings) I didn't measure the length properly and they're either too short or too long depending on which way I route them

Now obviously I can't lengthen them but I can shorten them, so can I cut one end off and use some fittings from here:

I need a straight on fitting, not a banjo.

What sort should I use?

It has to be certified anyway. Any idea's if they'll pass these fittings in a cert?

I use there brake lines in my race car. I got them to make them and my fault they were to long but i got extra olives and shorten them my self. I need to get of my arse and with ggs as my mates old man owns speedflow in aus and my mate runs the factory.When i had a beer with him last month and asked him how thay made the fittings they are all made on 5 axis cnc machines running 24/7.He has invited me over to look around the factory.

I would be nervous about using anything other than crimp fittings for your brake lines. Go see Alert Engineering and get them to put proper fittings on. Don't take shortcuts, you probably want your brakes to work.

pretty certain that you can't use screw together fittings on brake lines for road use i.e if you want a WOF

No to the first one, they are for rubber braided hose.
2nd one is for teflon braided hose and is aluminium
3rd one is for teflon braided hose but its steel.

And no you cant do this your self. If they can come apart by screwing they most likely are not road legal.

The road legal ones are all crimped together as Malcolm has stated. They also come with a certificate or a tag on the lines that say so.

Alert Motorsport is the place to go.

Barry have you got any pics of your brake lines and how you've run them for those calipers?

They are -3 sized lines. The part going into the caliper is 1/8th NPT to -3. Then a 45deg fitting on the brake line, most people would use 90deg though.

Hmmmm sweet. I'll have another look tomorrow evening and see what I can do.

Don't suppose you'd care to take a guess at what it'd cost to get them to cut my lines to shorten them and out another fitting on?

I wonder of they could do that for ~$50 a side....

Good point. I'll go back to racebrakes and see what they'll charge for it

Well $70 for them to put a 90degree fitting on each end. Not bad.

Although I think a 45 would've been better....
