That is silly. It will not work. Unless you are spraying liquid that evaporates on the intercooler. The intercooler you have in there adds extra turbulence, drag/restriction, and perhaps heat soak.

If you are thinking about wind-chill factor - that only works if the object is hotter than ambient. In case of intercooler on NA, the air you are sucking in is the same temperature as air around the intercooler. It will not magically cool if you blow air on it. Thermodynamics 101, or shall I say common sense?

Sorry for the huge bump, but I was wondering if you can clean the stock air filter that comes with the Blacktops?? Or is it better to just buy a new one

I ended up going for an A'PEXi panel filter, and it's done a wonderful job.

But you're forgeting one very important factor....

It looks like your car is turbo


On the note of the K&N filter I tried there seemed to be no change in performance (well noticable gains anyway) over just a nice clean OEM filter. Would be interesting to try on dyno (though it would be an expensive excersie)

My thinking was more cold air = more power..?

The only downfall I noticed after installing it was a slight decrease in response at low revs.

But this could be remedied by fitting an arc chamber like Acesnipers setup?

Or is stock ecu hindering any possible gains?

It's more to do with the air having to be sucked through the intercooler core causing restriction

Pod filter in the guard shouldn't adversely affect the performance of the car. That said, I don't expect it will benefit it greatly either.

As you pointed out, the distance has probably lost a small amount of throttle response, but this would definitely be remedied with an ARC intake chamber.

My understanding of why is that the ARC chamber acts as a reservoir for air coming in, much like I believe the factory airbox setup does, so that there is a readily-available pool of air to suck in.

You can blow it out with compressed air, but as said they're not that dear.

To be honest, and probably a bit blunt, it'd have to be substantial enough a puddle that I'd feel like a right idiot going into in any event

Unless you have a depth sounder fitted some puddles can be surprisingly deep

I drive through flooded areas everytime it rains for more than a day or two just to get home from work. I'm sure you will be fine with the intake there, but I doubt there would be any gains from doing so.

Must be because his Honda was so low. he said the puddle was 200mm deep his filter must have been positioned pretty damn low.

Just measured my car and the tip of the filter was 250mm off the ground. And the end of the pipe is another 150mm above that. So for the intake pipe to actually suck up water wouldn't the tip of the pipe need to be submerged or at least incredibly close to the water?

My car rarely gets driven in the rain so not really a problem.

I believe it's called an interfooler...

Seriously though, the air you're sucking through the pod is the same temperature as the air flowing through the intercooler, so it's not going to make any difference, the intercooler just becomes a restriction in the flow of air and actually makes you lose power.

pretty sure someone on here with a 3s a while back hydraulic'd their engine too. Banana'd the conrods and then had to rebuild with oversized pistons due to bore/hone tidy up. Not sure it was a regular poster though.
