From 2011, any driver whose best qualifying lap exceeds 107 per cent of the fastest Q1 qualifying time will not be allowed to take part in the race. Under exceptional circumstances, however, which may include setting a suitable lap time in a free practice session, the stewards may permit the car to start the race. Should there be more than one driver accepted in this manner, the grid order will be determined by the stewards.

The only thing I can think of is that they might be holding back or whatever in order to preserve tyres/fuel in Q1. But I mean, you'd have to have incredible skill to do that when you consider the marginal time gaps between 1st and 10th sometimes in Q1.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

No, all cars must have a fastest lap within 107% of the pole time.
Slower than that is deemed to slow to be allowed to race.

In other words, go faster, or you don't race.

The 107% rule isn't going to make much difference, the only driver that consistently falls under that is Chandok, and he won't be in F1 next year.

You didnt miss much, boring as usual, apart from Kobayashi being awesome in the last two laps, overtaking Alonso, and then on the last corner of the last lap Buemi.

Whats the story I hear 9 cars are under investigation by the stewards for speeding when the safety car was out what is that all about and Button was one of them??

It makes me wonder how good Raikkonens performance's were in a dud Ferrari in 08 and 09 vs Alonso's efforts this year..C'mon Ferrari what goes on I'm on the Bring back Raikkonen band-wagon.

Well, when Schumacher went to Ferrari we saw how he altered how the team was run.

Alonso has done the same.

Alonso annoys the hell out of me. He's a good enough driver, but he is the WORST loser.

And his press statements are just as bad!

He didn't even attempt to pass, Heikki pulled to the left, and Webber followed him to get some more slip stream! And he has the audacity to blame Heikki for the crash??

Didn't you know its always the fault of the car in front if you run into the back of them.

Webber said so, he even said that the lotus brakes aren't as good as his, and that Heikkien was slowing down to far away from the corner.

A bit funny coming from Webber, given some of the cars he's driven over the years.

I think F-1 is a bit of a travesty with all these slower cars I mean c'mon I've seen in Qualifying this year some of these cars 6-7 seconds off the pace. Why have they allowed these 2nd rate teams into the main game when really they are only upto GP2 standards.

I like Alonso as a driver but at the moment I think RBR and Mclaren are just doing a better job and have a faster car than Ferrari end of story so this is why I think your seeing these sort of reactions from Alonso its partly because Ferrari just aren't doing a good enough job.

One thing I will say Lewis Hamilton has really matured as a driver no longer is he hell bent on winning every race he seems to have finally realised sometimes just getting a result instead of being hell bent on winning will pay off for him in the long run.
