I think they are the JDM equivalent of re-001's?

Any comments on them?

You are right that they are the equivalent of the RE001. I think they could even be made in Thailand

But being from Japan, they can be hard, so they wont perform as well as they should.

If they are made in Thailand, they cant be used on NZ roads as they arent compliant.

Any links to back that up re thailand tyres?

Looking at these from tyrebusters - 80% tread. As a stop gap replacement on our daily driver.

Sorry, what? Please link to evidence that cars at wof inspections are inspected for compliance standards?

perhaps they are supposed to be, but generally are not - have seen many standard-less tyres passing wof checks

i suspect he may be reffering to not having a standards marking and not able to be fitted when a vehicle is being complied, much the same as many aftermarket tail lamps

Sounds like BS, if you can get wofs on Kelly's and Triangles.

would only apply at compliance. not an issue at WOF unless tread is too low.

there's a whole raft of things that can be Wof'ed, but not able to be conplied.

Sounds bizarre, how do cars get complied on snow tyres then?

Or are the tyres fitted after compliance?

If they are made in Thailand, they wont have a JIS standard mark on them, making them not legal for our roads, there will be nothing wrong with them at all, better quality than Triangle etc, but they have JIS markings on them.

You may pass a WOF with them on, just most dont know what to look for. a DOT code isnt enough.

I have them on ist, and they are similar but not the same as RE001, they are family version of RE001 I believe. It is a great tyre for something like ist/echo/vitz/whatever.

I have japanese ones, came with the car from japan, and yes they pass compliance.

They are very good in the wet.

Please be of finding for me the reason for rejection that states you reject a tyre if you can not find an appropriate standards marking.

You are perpetuating a myth. Please stop perpetuating this myth. In service WOF on a general vehicle, you do not need standards markings.

I failed a WOF just the other day because of no visable load rating.
I was informed that from 1st jan tyres on the car must:
have load rating
the load rating must be within 2 ratings of the other tyre on that axle.

Maybe that's what he means

These are rated 91v or thereabouts (load & speed rating)

I've got them on the front of my GX71. I'm really enjoying them, good in the wet and not too much road noise or anything. The car has far too much body roll to really know how they handle though.

Thats always been a rule

And as stated above, WoF and compliance are completely different with very very different sets of rules
