if you get a WOF today you could reg it today. New price goes up tomorrow.

if you get a WOF today you could reg it today. New price goes up tomorrow.


Yeah I'll miss out because I'm in the middle of sorting out some WOF fixes, shit happens.

Just had a thought, why isn't an annual ACC fee charged to the person as a drivers licence holder instead of charged to each vehicle they own?

Then rego would be about $50 a year on each vehicle according to the fee's breakdown you get with the rego tag.

Awesome idea! But government does not want to make people happy, it wants $$$.

They should really decide if they need 7-8 cars :lol: I got 3 but am wondering why I have more than 2. Only one on the road though.

But yeah, if you don't want to pay rego, just ride a push bike or catch the bus, both equally lame options compared to paying rego and driving a car :lol:

But then you get the person with a licence and no car.....

Just scrap ACC and let people sue.

Your insurance should have liability cover in it up to about $10M or something. If you crash into someone and they become a paraplegic, they sue you, your insurance pays them out shittons of money, and you get reamed on premiums for the rest of your days.

Nah, we can't have that, because then everyone in NZ would become accountable for their own actions.

What worries me is that cyclists don't pay ACC and they are at greatest risk.
Why not make rego for cyclists if they want to ride on main roads? While there let them sit through licence test as well.

TBH rego hasn't gone up that much at all apart from big bikes and scoots.

extra 30ish hit a year is no skin off my nose.

And I dont have a licence for my VFR1000 so im in the shit if I get pulled up anyway

Nick "180 degrees" Smith was claiming that diesel produces more CO2 per litre compared to a litre of petrol. Of course like most politicians he cherry picks his information and doesn't inform the unwashed masses that you generally go a hell of a lot farther on a litre of diesel than a litre of petrol!

Diesel has no ACC levies on it, it is all collected through rego. Petrol vehicle ACC levies are collected from rego and fuel.

Motor vehicle account levies are collected via an annual licence fee for vehicles and a tax on petrol sales.

For petrol powered vehicles this works out as:

* Average annual license fee of $158.14 (paid when you register your vehicle)
* Petrol tax of 9.34 cents per litre (for the average vehicle this works out as $96.49 per year).

Total levy payable: $158.14 + $96.49 = $254.63

Diesel vehicles don’t pay the petrol tax, so the whole of their levy is collected from the annual license fee (i.e. $254.63).

because of my proximity to work i ride every day....... but still have to pay rego for a vehicle or two i dont use every day.

As above the alternative is suing each other if you have an accident to get money to pay your medical bills. Or pay rego and get 'free' treatment. I know which i'd rather do :) Likewise i'd rather pay any insurance and not have to claim, than have to claim. As if you need to claim ACC you have been injured in an accident and will have associated hassles involved with your recovering. No hassle > hassle :wink:

I just got the reminder for the rego on my van, $583! All I can say is $&#$% that pisses me off.

Also from looking at the nzta fees web page http://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicle/registration-licensing/fees.html it looks like it's $30 cheaper to cancel the rego and get a new set of plates and 1 years rego for $548 for some reason, anyone know if there's some catch here?
