me thinks the person should be named afterwards so that people know to tread (trade?) carefully in future. How hard would it be to have a system similar to NZH with feedback and ratings? I rarely buy stuff off people on forums unless I know them personally otherwise it's too risky handing over $$$ and ending up in a situation like this

I'm pretty sure the trader ratings system is just a mod you can download for phpbb2. I administered a phpbb2 forum for a couple of years and installed a few mods on them (quick reply box down the bottom of topics is a godsend, I wish we had one on here), and it's pretty straightforward, you've just got to be careful you don't bugger anything up. I think the issue however is that phpbb don't really offer support for version 2 boards anymore, so they'd probably want to upgrade to phpbb3 first, but I'm sure that would be much more of a headache and cause all sorts of problems.

What you can do is approach someone local to the seller that is well known and ask if they will act as a middle man. Quite a popular method on Oldschool to ask for someone from xxxxx area to do a pick up / sending of an item. Often its due to sellers on trademe not wanting to send items, but there's no reason it can't work for buying off other forum users if the $$$$ amount is big. A box of beers for the middle man isn't much to pay for peace of mind 8)

I'm guessing just a miss understanding as to the word in the thread title. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/reticent+

Maybe.

I had to look it up tbh

Name & shame, do the rest of Toyspeed a favour.
