Windsrceen insurance

My car windscreen has lots of surface chips and scratchs on it which makes it dangerous to drive at night in the rain with on coming car headlights shining through it.

There are no cracks in the windscreen so its structurally sound.

Has anyone tried claiming insurance on that type of situation and been successful?

Oh I'd never do anything like give it a wee hit with a hammer and get it done under insurance.
Definitely wouldn't do that.

I have claimed a new screen because of chips. Just say a car sped past you in road works and chipped your screen. That works.

If you have a frosty morning turn your heater onto your window on full. i had a glass company tell me to do that when i had a lot of chips in my windscreen. it craked very quickly and i got a new windscreen out of it.

If you have decent insurance (I had State) check your policy. Mine included a free no questions windscreen replacement. They will always recommend a place to go to do it but in the end it is only a recommendation and anywhere that will take the claim number is a goer

I had a tiny pea sized chip. Had it repaired under insurance, said I wasn't happy and I got a new screen.

Chip was directly on the horizon, so it was kinda annoying.

I don't think the chips are deep enough to crack using the heater.

I'm with State so I will check my papers and see what it says.

It's mainly the scratches and blurry screen when it's wet that concrens me.

Also what the chance of getting a tinted top windscreen as the replacement? I know a lot of replacment windows aren't the same as factory spec. I think its brown at the top like the side windows.

Car is a 1990 SW20 MR2 Targa top if that helps.

You only get 1 a year nomally....or 1 every 12 months.

So only do it when you REALLY have to lol

But on a more serious note, just go into one of the glass places. I had a stone chip in a windscreen and they said they couldn't fix it, but would do the whole screen no worries. This is under insurance, so if you did the same you'll be fine.

I didn't get it fixed though as it wasn't that bad, few months later I had a stone hit the screen and put a decent crack in it.... so now its been replaced

Remove targas, unbolt braces, go for spirited drive - job done?

Come for a drive up here? . I had 2 windscreens done in my P11, 1 in the SW20 and 1 in the swift all in less than 3 years. All had chipped then cracked. Some had a "helping hand" and never had a problem. Always gone through smith and smith.

So in conclusion it shouldn't be too hard to get the windscreen replaced under insurance.

Yep I got mine replaced under insurance for the same thing. Take it to a glass place for assessment and see what they recommend.

Turn aircon on full cold onto windscreen then pour the boiling water?, that should work if you really want to crack it

I will go see a glass place to see what is the best way forward.

Stupid Wellington is always raining and has piss poor day light hours compared to Dunedin.

id personally recomend calling in to Top Glass Kapiti
theyre on Arko place just off kapiti road, paraparaumu
but im slightly biased as i work for Top Glass in Levin

that is assuming paraparaumu isnt too far out of the way?
