Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Dont really like the GSRs aye. As for EVOs IMO the only good ones were 3 and 7 and 8. EVO 4s are rediculously common these days and I hear are the slowest and most troublesome ones of all of them.


they not SLOW, I mean they would be as quick as an V4 sti.

The main issue with them appears to be the AYC, apparently the diff shit's itself but other than that you seem to see a few with high kms still going strong

But yeah evo 7's are hot


Friend of mine has an EVO 4 and our V4 STi is fractionally quicker in a sraight line from what I've seen, not much in it at all though, The AYC is only an issue if you dont look after it, get it serviced and it will be fine as my friend has found.

By GSR Im guessing you mean GSR EVO? Or do you mean the 1.8 Turbo GSR? Ive seen a few of those explode over the years, but I have known of people that look after them and they seem to do ok?

Seconded.

Evo4s aren't too bad, the main issues are the AYC as mentioned, and the crank walk when running an upgraded clutch. I'd rock one in a second, but keep it reasonably standard, maybe replace the AYC with an RS mechanical diff. Nice looking cars too.

* Coupe = Celica GT4
* Hatch = Pulsar GTiR
* Sedan = Evo 4 or Accord Euro R
* Station Wagon = Caldina GTT

I was in a similar situation when I bought my car a few years back (spending up to $15k). I wanted something decent on long trips, had plenty of room & could tow my boat.

What I found:
Golf GTi: Mind-numbingly borning to drive.
Evo 4: Rear seats don't fold. AYC issues. Prefered a wagon.
WRX: Reliability issues.
WRX STi: Impossible to find a straight one.
Legnum VR4: Really, really bad on fuel.
GTT: Ugly interior. Not as 'sporty' as the others.

If I was doing it again - Accord Euro R or Caldina GTT.

whatever you do don't buy Galant/Legnum VR4.

Yeah ive only ever heard bad things of those VR4s aye. As for the S7 Batty idea, I like a lot :) Little bit more money. Maybe it is worth the extra saving. Never know lol.

GTiRs I have liked since I was like 15 and always wanted one. If I was to get one it would be to finally relinquish that craving. Not that they are a bad ca at all, ive heard of problems with understeer and the gearboxes are not the flashest. Getting hard to find a decent one though. Anyone know what these things are like on gas? Ive only known one person who had one while I was at school and he was rediculous with cars so cant trust him...he used to put like $7 gas in to full it up to empty.

Yeah that was something that I pondered over for a while before deciding to buy mine....I haven't regretted it. Its a fantastic car. Depends on how you judge a good car I guess: How it actually drives vs what other people that aren't driving it think.

Yeah i nearly creamed just then. God that is a sexy thing. I just have to somehow find a way to justify spending that amount on a car lol! Not that I would have problem but the other half would rip me in half

problems:

Gearbox
Lifters
Turbos
Diff (AYC)
Fuel consumption
Electrical

Cambelt is a very costly exercise on those (being V6 and all).
Brakes are weak for that car. Handling is so-so. Has this asthmatic feel due to tiny turbos.
