I'm assuming you've driven one? Are you seriously tryng to say that they are "astmatic" compared to a GTT Caldina :?:

The manual gearboxes are pretty robust, so are the autos once you upgrade the pissass factory trans cooler to a bigger unit. The rest are maintenance issues.

I accept that they are a more demanding/expensive car to run than the GTT but nevertheless theyre a far superior car


I have driven about ~20 of them. Every single one of them had some sort of problem, all of them had noisy lifters. By asthmatic feel I mean it does feel like it is running out of breath above 6000 rpm.

GTT is far better built, lighter, economical, more reliable, and handles better, as well as there is no unpredictable AYC.

Yeah a wee bit out. I had a look at some that have those bolt on turbo kits. Anyone know what they go like?

Average to not bad, depends what bits they've got on them and how they're tuned.

if you got one already done, or bought an n/a one and the kit separately - you'd already be pretty close on price to the one i linked.

For once I totally agree with you Sergei.

Ive driven half a dozen VR4's in both the wagon and sedan version
And Aj'z my flatmate on here ownd a GTT for 3 years

Wouldnt even compared the VR4 to the Gtt

GTT is a better car in every way except prahaps interior on late model Vr4 had the nice fake walnut and leather.

Also feel free to correct me (not that you fcukers dont already :P )
But dont the Altezza's have a tendency to go boom if you turbo them and dont get the ecu tuning absolutely perfect.
Not that any other turbo car isnt the same but I seem to remember a few guys in here having trouble with stock internal Tezza's with bolt on kits.

Also 10k gets you DAM close to one of these.

RE: S7 RX7 idea.

Loads of fun, very easy to get into trouble with the law (they love going sideways). But remember: Rotary reliablity. If it hasn't been regularly serviced & looked after, it could be a time bomb.

You could have a prety sweet first gen aristo for 10k

legnums are pants... apart from piss poor build quality, the interior is even more old man spec than camrys etc, and they have that nice big list of common issues that sergei wrote. far superior to caldinas in what way?

are there any that are auto only? i've only seen manual and tiptronic, and the tiptronic gives issues too!

RX7 would get my vote i reckon, they might have their issues too but are a totally sweet car to make up for it.

the batmobiles are pretty tiny inside but i was suprised at just how quick they felt

My brother picked up a 140kms S7, with adjustables & Mags for 10k cash.

Ideally you would want a low kms factory S7 RS, best factory options without going up to a S8. Although they are still selling on car yards for $23,000 +

What was this S7 your bro picked up like? Had it had a rebuild? Didnt explode a few weeks later?

Tidy, chick who owned it before him was leaving the country.
Had had a rebuild at some stage, in the 6 months he owned it he only had one problem - blew of an intercooler pipe.

Interior was mint, outside had a few supermarket scratches & one of the adjusties was leaking. I took the adjusties off him for my S6 and he went with KYBs and Tiens because it wasn't certified.

What are they like on gas? Quite thirsty I would presume. Like what would you get to a tank or something. The only real thing that puts me off RX7s is reliablilty (obviously if it is serviced regularly and well kept it should be fine) and the fuel consumption. If the daily driver shits itself then I would need to drive an RX7 on the 50km return trip to work in wellington traffic...

He got it from Wellington > Hamilton on a single full tank of gas.
Batts aren't that bad on fuel as long as you stay light on the loud pedal.

I dailyed mine when it was stock - 30kms per day to work and back, didn't break the bank.

im going to get shot for saying this....

have you looked into an xr6 falcon, can get a reasonably late model in good nick with reasonably low kms for under 10k

sh1t loads of room, enough power when you stick your foot down or wanna bake it up. handle amazing

plenty of power for if you want to tow anything.

ive only heard bad things about them but the old mans on his second one and never had any problems what so ever. they are awesome to drive despite what anyone else says and not too bad on the gas

no straight autos, theyre auto/tiptronic INVECS 2. Issues are generally due to inadeqate cooling, the standard cooler isn't up to the job, no biggie though as most trans specialists can upgrade to a heavy duty one. Cost me 300 inc at the Gearbox Factory, about 7 years ago.
Each to their own I guess , i only drove 1 GTT in my life admittedly and it was a pretty uninspiring experience tbh. A bit like a turbo libero , just feels like mum's shopping trolley with a small turbo bolted on, rather than a complete performance package.


XR6 for that money would be a very high km early BA (I assume that's whats being referred to, anything older handles like a sack of hammers)

I'd hardly consider a Legnum a complete performance package either :? More like a slightly quicker Camry wagon really.
