The late model 2.2 Vtec prelude's go ok apparently, anyone can confirm or deny?
EX:89 RS and GT Legacys, 90 EF9 Civic, 95 Integra R, 95 AE101, 90 ST185, 88 Accord, 87 3rdoor and 5door Swift hatch, 91 Pontiac Lemans, 80 Liftback Celica, 95 Hornet 250

Yeah they go pretty good, id say almost as quick as my st185.
But i wouldn't buy one.

if the 2.2 was in another body yes, or it was turbo or had half the car cut off.

how about a jzz30 soarer? im surprised no one has talked about these yet. Theyre the cheapest 1j turbo cars and even in auto they go rather well. quite good value for money id say if you can get a nice late model one and low ks , black ones are very hard to find but look the best i think. nice set of rims and lower them and they look the part :)

And they are also very heavy.

I think a UZZ30 makes more sense than a JZZ30. Big heavy plush car, it ought to be a cruiser. Plus V8 rumble is pretty sweet.

Keep the 2.2L vtec, lose the prelude body, use the leftover 4-5k to tidy it up?

we have one of these, it's reasonably quick for a daily, although maybe not enough fun for a weekender without a few mods.

I've seen those sell very cheap at auction here in Auckland.

But if you're looking at a weekend car for a bit of fun - a manual has to be the way to go IMO.

And while we're at it - something that big may as well be usefull off road (i.e. something with a propper diff).

battys make sweet dailys, not too bad on gas (comparable to turbo s14/s15). Just breaks my heart a bit when daily driving wear and tear and such catches up with mine. Things like mud on the carpet from rainy days and stuff like that.

Things I've spent money on to keep it running well:

gasket between block and turbo manifold - $1500 inc parts and labour ( I had just bought the car and did not want to go diving into disassembling a major part so soon, so I paid a workshop to do it and immediately remembered why I do my own maintenance once the bill was presented)

spark plugs and 02 sensor - $200/year

oil changes - $50 every second month

clutch - $950 for a organic disk and uprated stock pressure plate. c**t of a job.

Shock started leaking at 100,000kms - installed a set of HKS adjusties second hand for $900

Other than that, always using bp 98, insurance and parking in parking buildings for safety.

the WORST part about driving one every day, is you can't escape people wanting to comment or talk to you about your car. These things are not attention magnets, they are like, attention large-hadron-colliders.

does any other rx7 owner find this, or is it just me?

Havent owned an FD, but have owned all the other models and yes - people always want to talk to you about them. Kinda cool though.

Nah soarers have too many problems. Not a fan of them tbh.
I'd really only have one if It was cheap and I wanted it for a hack.

RX7 = gamble.

Should be a lot of fun, but not stupidly exotic to repair.

whats so wrong with soarers? my friend has had one he bought from a turners auction about 4 years ago and uses it as his daily and he hasnt had to do much at all to it, apart from the usual cambelt, oil changes and replacing brakes. even if they are around 1500kg they are luxury motoring and enough grunt to keep a grin on your face. with light mods the 1jzgte engine is a weapon. having such a bullet proof engine is a good starting point in a car that even if its not used all the time at least when you do give it stick its going to last.

No point in a Gen 3 turbo mr2 for me, might as well keep my aw11.

There's never anything stupidly awesome when I've got cash floating around.
