E Series 2wd LSD boxes, AE101, AE92 etc

Postby strx7 » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:31 am

I seem to recall a while ago a thread with some pics, but cant seem to find it when I want to look at them. There are 2 types of E Series boxes, a narrow cog and a Wide cog version. is the AE101 GTZ box a Narrow cog box? (pretty sure that is the one) and if so, the LSD's that are in some of them, do they use standard type axles or ones with longer spline?

I'm looking at using them on another application and need to know exactly what it is that i am hunting for.

thanks

Ae101 is the e58 and seems to be the narrow cog box as it has the tin 5th gear cover. you need the longer spline that goes in the box on the passenger side to activate the lsd. aftermarket lsds dnt need the longer spline shafts for their lsds. The boxes with the alloy end cover is the bigger cog box from ae92s and are e52s. Correct me it im wrong.

Have you seen this guide?
http://www.roadandtrack.net.au/images/stories/documents/E_gearbox_short.pdf

It is mostly about the wide cog versions but does have a wee bit of info about the narrow versions as well.

Just had a quick skim of it but not sure if it says anything TRD_ZERO didn't.

Hopefully useful?
