My suspension issue.

Postby TRD_ZERO » Sun Aug 08, 2010 3:44 pm

OK so ive got abit of a problem. Ive got trd adjustable coilovers and the rears shocks are poked and they are bottoming out and cracking my wheels. Replacement inserts are $400-$500 a corner. The fronts still seem fine. Im just not too sure what to do, just get some lowering springs and normal shocks for the back and leave the adjusties in the front? But then that could just end up being a mess of a combination. Pull all the suspension out and replace with plain shocks and lowering springs? Its just going to be for the street, no circuit days well maybe 1 just for a taste. Relpacing the inserts is just too pricey right now.

Thought id post this question and see what light you could shed on this

it would cost you around 1200 - 1400 for new shocks and springs, so IMO fix the coilovers

Or sell the TRD adjustables and buy a new set of struts from Toyota is about $600 inc gst for 4. These are made by KYB. And keep a lookout on trademe for some 2nd hand lowering springs. (usually go for around $150-200) Maybe till then just put some factory springs in.

If you can get springs, i'd go with new shocks / springs.

2k is a lot of $$$ to spend fixing some coilovers, as if the rears are gone, the fronts might go soon too.

Then sell the trd's to help fund new springs / shocks.

If money isn't an issue, keep the coilovers.

The inserts for TRD coil overs are KYB special orders to trd specs. You might be able to find some KYB inserts that are valved similar to trd specs but for half the price.

ow did he know they are Bilsteins? Did he pull them out?
Only way to get the exact insert is from TRD.
Not sure if you can even buy any KYB insert for the corollas?

No suspension tech PUTS blisten inserts into them, like they did on mine. But these are not adjustable ones where you can adjust with a dial, it is prevalved to your preference.

I know they are KYB becuase I brought a brand new set of TRD ae111 coilovers from TNZ a few years a go and assembled them myself.

KYB inserts would be where I would start but key is to match valving and stroke. The trd inserts are not rebuildable but I have heard of people cutting off the end and welding on a thread and valve so they can be. bit rangi if you ask me.

That to replace them.

Give Regan at autolign/racelign a ring and as him for a price to rebuild your existing ones

+1 for Regan.

I just had my bilsteins rebuilt by him, and a work mate colleague had new inserts done for his Mazda 1300.

Very fast turn around aswell.

Both done in under a week, we paid $250+GST to get the fronts done.
