The whole thing with the L-FA though is brand perception.
That car is 100% a marketing tool.

Yup!

Plus maybe they see it as an area they have a chance of dominating. How many manuactures have factory teams in the WRC?

do people honestly buy cars like a corolla based on the WRC? with the likes of your gt-4's, evos wrxs etc i can see it - but no-one is going to mistake your fridge white corolla for a rally weapon.

what he said.
funny thing with all of the links between Toyota return and Prodrive, is the fact that Neal Bates S2000 is often pictured accompanying the script?? a privateer run team!!

why would Toyota choose Prodrive over TTE??? unsure that they would.

rumour also has Prodrive linked to Mini and Subaru again.

To be fair Corolla's are like Coke the name by itself sells it itself Toyota don't need to push that model its name Corolla as above sells itself.

The LFA like Revvy said is a marketing toll it showcase's the best Toyota has with regards to technology and no how so with this in mind i think a definite progression in GT and Endurance racing is where Toyota will go over something like WRC.

Link to Japanese "Best Car" magazine front cover - latest edition due out today. http://twitpic.com/2c1wcw

Apparently the reference to WRC near the bottom of the page says something like "Toyota Confirm WRC Entry".

The latest Autosport stated that a decision would be made this month but that the sales & marketing boss favoured WRC over all other motorsport.

Which is why Toyota name every model 'Corolla'.

I miss the days of STi vs. Evo battles, with basic 'off the shelf' models availible to public.

Good luck getting 4wd turbo Citroen C4 or Pugeot 307. In fact good luck finding a C4 capable of hitting 100kph in under 10 seconds  .

This. Very much this.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Makes sense, trying to Improve the Lexus brand image so racing it in GT1 will help a bit. I think GT2 would be a better option though.

Once again, nothing concrete. Isn't it amazing how many "scoops" there are that tell us nothing.
I guess we'll just all have to wait until the 'official' announcement later this month.

I just think that WRC doesn't make sense for Toyota in these times the LFA with its endurance program and all the testing they have done at the Nurburgring the GT1 series and LeMan sound like a more serious proposition and I think outside of F-1 that GT-1 series looks to be the biggest thing going in motorsport at the moment and with Toyota already having a car that is cpapble of doing well I think that series makes more sense than WRC.
