3SGTE condition?

Postby Adamal » Sat Aug 14, 2010 2:51 pm

Finally got an engine stand the other day and got to work, and this was the worst condition piston.

A bit of detonation here, but overall, is the condition of it not too bad? Its been sitting for a while, which is why the water galleries are filled with gunk, but thats ok, cause the block is gonna get cleaned out anyway :)

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

that'll probably be ok, although if you were planning to push the limits of the motor the pitting could cause hot spots where you could get pre-ignition. One of mine was nearly that bad when I did my headgasket a few years ago, I just lightly sanded it to remove any high spots. Also check the head because there would be similar or worse damage, although it'll mostly get removed if you get the head skimmed unless they're very deep
