ae101 trueno shuddering while accelerating

Postby sik_gt_starly » Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:28 pm

Hey guys.

Trueno has been used for daily driving to work and havnt done a long trip in a while. Woke up to go to Hamilton this morning jumped in car and got out the 100km area and car starts shuddering like its going to fall to pieces, steering wheel shakes pretty crazy and i feel pretty unsafe driving it.

I havnt touched the car lately so cant be any human error. tyres are pretty average condition but cannot see anything out of the ordinary. truth be told wouldnt know what im looking for anyway... Wheel nuts are on tight

Starts gentle shudder 40km/h up, sounds REALLY bad 90-105 km and then dissapears 120km.

pretty much only makes the noise/shudder on acceleration, stops as soon as i push clutch in, when cruising at 105km ot doesnt make noise and its TERRIBLE driving behind slow drivers that cant make up their mind what speed they want to do.

Any help on this would be much appreciated on this, im an accountant and dont know a hell of a lot about cars. This is my POS daily, i dont care what it looks like but i do want it to be safe and drive ok. Im about to put new front shocks in it so touch wood ill be able to fix problem at same time.

Thanks alot

have you look in iner rack end or out?
or the engine mount?

it could be the tyres jack it up and rall it and touch it with your hands you will feel the lump.

it would be good if you can bring it to my shop i can find out for you what is the problem rght away.

dus it do it only when you shift the gears?
put the sound on youtube and i will have a look

Had a similar problem on my AE101 Trueno. Could be due to wheel alignment or balance, also was told to look for irregular wear on the tyres.
A wheel rotation did the trick for me.

shaking through the steering wheel usually indicates something with the front wheels, if you feel it through the seat / body of the car it tends to point to the rear.

have you ever driven it at 100k before? or is this a new problem. i would be looking at wheel balance, damaged tyres, or engine mounts in that order for a start.

but as always hard to say without driving it!

local mechanic will prob be keen to diagnose it for ya, things are a bit quiet at the moment ;)

I had the same problem with my old AE101 Levin. Turned out the hubs were out of round where the wheel bearings were pressed into it.
I sold the car without fixing it, but i had replaced everything else bar the hubs, even put new wheel bearings in it.
