AE111 Auto Fuel Efficiency

Postby Subway » Sun Aug 22, 2010 11:22 pm

Howdy. I've had my ae111 bz-g for 3 years or so now, around town its been pretty consistently 10L/100km. After talking to a mate with a Manual ae101 silvertop he said he averages around 6-7L/100km.

Is an slush box really that bad? or are there filters etc I can replace that will eck out better fuel efficiency (Done 170,000km, regularly change oil and filter)

These days autos vs. manuals are fairly close. Not sure on a 12+ year old car though.

My AE101 Manual BZ Touring would get roughly 12km per litre which sounds about right when compared to your friend.

My GF's 1.5l auto familia get 10km/l which sounds similar to your consumption so I guess that could be plausable.

You cant really compare 2 different drivers either. You could swap cars and find you end up with the same fuel economy because of how you drive it/them

yea manual is just much more efficient.
From my 96 bzg manual I get an economy of 7-8L/100km. A mix of city and urban driving. And certainly not trying to drive efficiently.

Before this I had a sohc 1600cc 1992 civic which was auto and its usual economy was 10-11L/100km.

I get ~10km/L in my manual BZG. 99% town driving/thrashing. Its better on long trips.

6-7L/100km, i'm bordering on calling bullshit..... 700km+ on a tank

Haha, cheers. 10/100km doesn't concern me, its just if theres maintenance I can do that will give me a bit better efficiency im keen to give it a go.

Would fuel filter/air filter be good to replace? can't say i've done either in the time i've owned it.

yea 6 would be near impossible. 7.5L/100km for me is probably more open road thats ~550km from just over 42l of fuel. Which is just after empty light stays on.

Re: fuel filter i didn't notice any difference. But it wouldn't hurt. Just make sure you don't strip the nut on it  . Or you might need a whole new fuel line....

I have come across more than one person getting 700ish out of ae111 blacktop manuals.
All were girls...
Also was before they started adding that ecogunk to the fuel so you won;t get that now.

You will not ever get that milage from a stock tuned silvertop.

about 7-8 years ago I used to get 6-7L /100km constantly out of AE101 silvertop trueno (on 96). I was able to drive from full tank from North Shore to Wellington non-stop. That is before I started to fiddle with it. After all the changes (exhaust, removed cat, pod filter in the guard, you know standard stupid useless mods) I was never able to go below 8l/100km no matter how I drove it. I also assume fuel has changed in that time. Oh BTW all the mods did nothing powerwise, it was high 15s (closer to 16  ) before and after.

I managed to get 700km from one tank in my 4age Marino.
Engine was standard
2/3 was open road between Auckland airport and Hamilton.
The rest was around Auckland city.

I was deliberately trying to get max from a tank and drive it until the engine was starting to cough!
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

It's often the oxy sensor that's died or on it's way out.

Meh, My Aristo get's around 6.8km per litre at the moment.

Just drive it!

But seriously, what gas do you run in it? It really needs 98 in it for starters.

Usually 95/96, ive tried a few tanks of 98, didnt notice a difference.
I think o2 sensor could be next on the list

Make sure it is faulty before forking ~$350 to replace it. Search on these forums how to check it.

6-7L/100km fuel usage around town... Must be driving with an egg under their foot.

Using tricks like turning the engine off when waiting at the lights, using high pressures in the tyres, type of tyres (185mm width), light weight rims, good wheel alignment, well maintained engine, car kept clean on the inside to keep weight down, ect. Above all, driven on flat ground and NEVER see anything over 1/4 throttle and maybe, just maybe it might get it.

Mine gets 9-10L/100km around town and 7.5-8.5L/100Km open road.

Only once have I ever seen 700km. Needed my race tyres (185/55R14) and stuck to 90-100km/h. Drove from New Plymouth to Hawera, then the following day from Hawera to Stokes Valley and back to Hawera. Weather was breezey with a tail wind down and no wind on the return trip. Air temp was cool but otherwize fine.

Of course, driving style is the biggest factor to fuel economy. Slower you go, less gas you use.

But where's the fun in that?

I got 7L per 100km on a trip from Tauranga to Wellington in our SZ-R Supra. 3 litre and it sits at 2750rpm in 6th at 100kph
if you cant get that out of a 1.6 then there must be something wrong with your car.

Routinely (like, 5 tanks in a row) get 550km from petrol light to petrol light which is 41 litres in an AE92 Levin, 210kms on a bigport 4age.. rooted CV's, engine mounts are gone, doesn't make any power over 4.5k revs, power steering pump is $&#$% etc etc

Can't imagine an AE111 (lighter, higher compression ratio, better ECU and less rooted all round) could be worse. Must be driving style. Point will be proven hopefully when I swap AE111 running gear in later this year, fingers crossed for 600kms/tank
