Registration Plates

Postby EVLGTZ » Tue Aug 24, 2010 9:26 pm

Just something I have been made aware of and thought I would share....

As of 1 November 2010, a new law comes into effect that allows you to restrict third parties access to your name and address details (personal details) via your vehicle registration plates.

If you dont want this info to be available then you must OPT-OUT...
If you dont your information will be given out.

Click on the link below to opt out , and send this to everyone you know if you have concerns.

WTF??! So that's why they ask for my rego number every time I go in...

I figured they got sick of trying to work out what model car people are requesting parts for so get the chassis details from the rego number. Didn't realise they had access to the ownership details though...

Still leaving mine registered to "another address" anyway

No they cant. They have access to the database which tells them what the vehicle is, but doesnt give out ownership details.

Wondering if security companies will still have access.

Pretty sure companies that use Motocheck will have to apply in writing so that their account will be set up so they are allowed access to owner details.

I imagine security companys will have to do this too.

im pretty sure that security companies will have some kind of access, maybe not the grunts but most definitly the chiefs.

My flatmate is in the security industry and we were talking about this last night

Yeh, Repco can't see your personal details, they just use it to get engine/chassis numbers.

Although, even when I quoted all the numbers the monkey still asked for my rego, after refusing to give it to him(I thought they COULD get personal details) and him getting shitty saying he needed it to find the right parts, the manager came out and said no he doesn't, cause i'd given him all the codes he needed...
Repco, FRUSTRATING.

As for security companies, i'd say they'll have access, repo companies would need it to find your car if say you'd move addresses to what you'd orignal taken the loan out on.
