Attaching an external wastegate to turbine housing

Postby ATAl » Mon Aug 30, 2010 4:38 pm

Hi all, i've been getting my car tuned and it's got uncontrollable wastegate creep with the internal wastegate, so i need an external.

I want to save money and avoid having to get a new turbo manifold if possible so i'm wondering if it's possible to attach an external wastegate to the turbine housing? Has anyone done this before, how did it work?

think he means its overboosting? rather than what that the autospeed thing is talking about.

have seen various ways for mounting to the exhaust housing. welding pipe directly to it. or removing the wastegate flapper, enlarging the hole. then the waste gate is mounted on the same flange at drop pipe. but will only work that way on some turbos.

what is the manifold made from? can you not just hole saw the appropriate sized hole, then weld onto it for the wastegate?

you could try a different actuator with longer throw, or bore a few mm off the walls of the actuator hole. for a attempt at a cheap fix

sorry, meant boost creep not wastegate creep.

Evil_si, that's exactly what i'm after, the turbine housing is a .64 a/r off a garrett gt2860rs, do you think you could modify it?

Its cast so no cracking or welds not holdings

the only problem with that is the a/r is higher at .72 and i don't want to make the turbo spool later, otherwise i would have already bought one :)
