i think a fine mist of water like you would get off a i/c spray unit from a scooby etc wouldn't plummet oil temperatures if you use it when it gets hot. all it would do is increase the thermal conduction between the air and the cooler, which would be a good thing in this case.

plus with temps of 100degrees any excess water will be vapourised into steam and make SFA difference in terms of getting water on the track etc.

im using Valvoline XLD premium 20w 50 as its what my engine builder told me to use.

the pressure is fine between 20-30psi when its at 120C and like 60-70odd when its cold.

the temp probe is in the remote filter part of the oil system, I assume its on the hot side before the cooler.

im nit sure ill get time to rig up the water sprayer for this round but ill def look at doing it after.

and no Fluro is where its at chris!!!!!!!! haha

well in that case u should paint them all like your tow wheels

i'd way if u get the water temp down a bit the oil temp will go with it?
and as said im pretty sure water sprayers are not allowed on track, sounds like a good battle trick though

A drop in 15c or so is a huge change in oil temp, which i would assume this setup could so other wises it's kinda pointless.

for what is normal oil temp,

has no-one else noticed the temp rang on an oil temp gauge compared to a water temp gauge?

Most water temps gauges are 40 - 120,
where oil temp gauges are more like 80 -180.

So assuming 1/2 way on a gauge is normal...........

Have a look at the color scale on this gauge,

I wouldn't be worried about the 120' oil.

How hot is the water getting? Obviously hot enough to cause you to be concerned.... How old is your radiator and have you had it cleaned properly? (tanks taken off and cores flushed).

I was always under the impression around 100 degrees is optimum for oil temp. A little higher a little lower is ok. Obviously synthetics can run a bit hotter before break down. If you have a good quality oil and are changing it regularly i wouldnt be worrying about 120 degree oil.
