small breather filter Q

Postby touge_ae101 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:23 am

so after a thrashing at the track my breather filter was spewing out a bit of oil. at present it just breathes to atmo but i am making a catch can soon!

so now my filter is full of oil is there any way of cleaning them out/removing oil??? cause when you blow through it there is quite a bit of restriction so i'm sure it can't be doing much breathing!

have got another filter on there now and i realise these filters are cheap but its more the hassle so would rather these filters not be throw-away items.

p.s. i hope everyone got the thread title.

Throw it away, it does nothing, it filters nothing, it will only keep bugs from crawling in or accumulate oil - that's it!
The engine needs to vent blowby, either to the atmosphere or the intake, you may use a puke/catch can between the engine and whatever final destination you've choosen. :)

thats the idea of making a catch can hopefully by the end of the week. :D to stop the blow by from spewing oil into my filter and eliminate and oil entering the intake through the PCV valve. 8)

i use the following setup and it works well

pcv valve to catch can to inline fuel filter to intake

apparently the vacuum off the intake assists in pulling the gases out, i dont get any oil in the intake

Make sure it is large enough in relation the your engine's capacity, as set out in Schedule A

And usually the idea on a catch can is not to stop oil from getting into the intake,

but to stop oil vapours entering the intake,
as oil vapour causes detonation,
which the knock sensor usually picks up and drop's timing to compensate.
