Toyota 2e Carby to Turbo EFI

Postby badassmofo » Thu Sep 23, 2010 1:18 pm

So I'm looking to get a manifold, loom, ecu etc off a 2e turbo starlet.

Currently got an EE90 Corolla I'd like to install it all on. It's 2E Carby.

Have got a fxgt fuel tank and lines, so not too worried about that. Guessing I need the filter as well?

Has anyone here done this before?

Will the 2e block handle standard boost sweet? Are there any other things I should worry about?

I'll have plenty of time to do the work, so not overly worried about the time aspect :-)

+1

Mate managed to blow up his 2ET on more than one occasion. He ended up putting in a 4EFTE (fresh rings/bearings) and it's coped well with his abuse including track use

+1 for ditch the 2e, pistons are rather fragile compared to the 4e gear.

Pickapart 5e (preferably fhe) and bolt on turbo gear from 4e-fte

Friend of mine ran a 13.2 on a junkyard motor, standard CT9 turbo on 8psi. Good fun

2e pistons are actually better, ive cut both in half and the 2e has a slightly better construction. But saying that, go 4e/5e. Same amount of effort - much bigger reward. I can wire it up if you need.

I've done the conversion above although into a EP70. Stock 2e will handle it sweet, wont really stress it with a ct9 (being so small). The 2e actually has a slightly higher comp ratio that the 2et so you'll get a bit more response.

Pretty sure your talking about my brother with the 13.2 on a ct9?

Yep, quite a lot of work went into the various bolt on bits to get that time, but still (at that point) an unopened engine with a standard turbo.

Unless my memory is playing tricks, I'm sure the 2e-t pistons had a much more fragile piston, I seem to recall a very thin area between compression ring and first oil control ring?

i think you will find, its more to do with 2et people being too cheap to tune them properly. run into detonation, then die from same fate as 4e/5e. cracked ring lands. plus you dealing with an older engine to start with

16v pistons all seem to be the same just crown height differs

end of the day the 16v head is far better.

ah and if your going to bolt the turbo gear on a carby 2e. there is no injector holes in the head like the efi versions
