in my experience the discs on jap cars last for donkeys in most cases. which interestingly means they can be a pain to find aftermarket (especially rears) and they are often more expensive than the equivalent euro stuff, which you replace three sets a day of.

talking budget brands here obviously, not genuine!

Had some spare time in the weekend so went and kicked some tires.
A mate of mine has just got a B4 legacy as well, so gave that a bit of a go, and defintly nice cars. Am going to look at a blitzen with leather trim interior this week as well, which looks the business. The legacy is defintly top of my list at the moment. Another which I really liked was the Mazda Atenza/6 sporthatchs. Nice looking cars and quite nice to frive as well, not overly quick, but enough for safe overtaking, and rode pretty nicely too. They seem to be a bit more expensive, but if I could get one for the right price, would be an option.

No hurry though, might even wait till late this year/early next year.

Dont touch turbo Legacies, they really are quite horribly unreliable.

Anyone had any dealing with a Xr6 turbo before? Are they pretty solid? have absolutly no idea about the Aussie cars, taking it they are pretty reliable in general?

Mates got one. Seems to always be in the shop getting fixed. Might just be him. Have a fair bit of go once they come on boost, seems to take years to get on boost though. Also insane gas guzzlers. Comfy though.

Most of the issues should have been fixed on XR6T's by now. They did have lots when they were newish

Not what I'd call laggy though? Auto ones dont really feel like they're ever off boost

I don't think they're very laggy but I've only ever driven Auto ones. They pretty much always have boost.

The main thing that went wrong with them was the diff bushes but most of them will have that fixed by now. Local Ford dealership has a whole room upstairs with all the ones they did under warranty :lol:

Good aussie tanks with plenty of go. They chew through the gas but you'd be naive to expect any less.

Nah, a heavy car with a 4 litre turbo motor ought to be the same as a 20v right? :lol:

Manual ones ate clutches, valve springs were an issue, and they lots of odd electrical issues too. Like I said though, most will have been fixed by now. $12k might struggle to get a nice one however

For that sorta money you're pretty much stuck with the likes of the one below unless you can live with the non turbo model

Topics I remember being discussed about XR6's: head gaskets leaking, diff failure, auto trans failure, discs warping.

This was on the fairly early XR6's when they were quite new though.

With that budget, I would stay with the Subarus. If I am going to get a Toyota, I would get a JZX... We have 2 in the family and they're born sleepers. The JZX101's ASC works well making you feel safe on every corner.

If you want an XR6 turbo, make sure you get a BF which is 2006 and newer. You get the ZF auto box which it alone is worth the extra cash.

$12k might get you half a car though.

Should have just kept the MR2 man and bought a reliable daily driver.

Wow that is great, all my jappa does is buzz to tell me if I have left the lights on or left the keys in the ignition. Far too simple though isn't it?

it was an example, say your kid gets in there and plays with the switches, turns on the lights and batt goes flat. or your girlfriend/mates sits in car to listen to radio while engines off, in my car the power is completely switched off when it detects the battery is getting low. so there is still enough power to start the car later, thus never has a flat battery,
