inconsistant hilux temp gauge..help

Now and then my hilux temp gauge has done the odd flick but lately its been going up and down alot (nowhere over mid range but tends to go up and down between cold and normal), i changed the thermostat as i thought it may have been this but still no change, any one know what it may be..

motor is a 22r, 2.4L petrol

bhg = blown head gasket.

Find a resistor that has the same resistance as your thermistor (the thingie that reads the temp), bridge the plug with it and see if your gauge wobbles, if it does, the gauge is farked. If it remains static, replace the thermistor itself, will cost you $20, but could be all that is the problem.

Also, flush the rad and engine if you haven't already.
