the falcon engines are shit and blow head gaskets all the time, had countless come into work. +1 for commy. the v6 is a very good engine especially if you can get the ecotec in the vs, vt etc

We bought a VT commy wagon from turners a couple of months ago for $4200. Came with $12500 worth of receipts for engine, trans and diff rebuild plus a few other bits n pieces all done within the last 3-4 years. Has 215000 kms and the interior is a bit rough in places but im not fussy.

It seems abit thirsty to me but I'm used to driving my diesel ute or missus old 323.

Towed the boat (4.5m Fleetline) across town with it a couple weeks ago and its like its not even there, acceleration, steering and brakes all feel just as good.

We had an issue with the CAS, which after replacing it, turned out to be a dead mosquito in the loom connector

Just be sure to check the front chassis rails for ANY SIGN of rust, as they had an issue of rusting from the iside out which Holden was repairing almost free of charge up until a couple of years ago so if you get one that hasn't been done you could be up for around $5k to replace the rails.

They are actually pretty efficient for a 4 litre, as long as you don't nail it every where, used less than half a tank getting from Tauranga to Hampton Downs and back for super lap, and that included alot of spirited driving through the back roads.

Said one only cost my mate $3,800. Handles well on 20s and adjustibles as well, full leather etc.

On the Peugeot hating wagon...even trade prices for parts are spendy as. In the 4k budget you will be probably buying a high miler, I would buy a falcadore as for the money you'll get something relatively new.

Economical/Towing capactiy don't go together well...

Agreed. Unless you've got a *way* bigger budget than $4k and are looking at a late model turbo diesel ute or suchlike :)

economy while towing i'm not fussed about, but want something economical if i'm not thrashing it round or towing.

ls400 seems like a pretty good package for me. leather would be ultra nice!

i work my ass off thats how. :D

i work during the semester, go home every 2nd weekend to work on the farm and work 30hrs in 2 days. have been doing that most of this year to fund my car.
but holidays are coming up and i'm tryna find a job that will either give me heaps of hours or pay real good.

once you've spend your whole working life working 80-90hrs a week you can never go to working a 40 or 50 hour week. the money just doesn't compare.
