AUCKLAND rant............

Post by d1 mule »

just thought id say AUCKLAND as a city you are a complete cock up.

i mean no right turns at intersections, nowhere to park anywhere, NO indicating, padestrians get longer to cross than cars.......

what a cock up.

on a side note MetallicA was awesome, better than the chch show by heaps

Auckland City is good place to live... so long as you don't own a car.

they intentionally made the central city less favourable for cars and better for pedestrians a few years ago, which is fine when you live here and know about it but shit if you come up expecting to get around like you would in other cities. Otherwise I'd say the biggest issue is your unfamiliarity with the place - christchurch is a pain with its damn one way roads and shit for people who don't live there.

True... but you'll never go further than city walls, maybe Waiheke & Devonport. Public transport is rubbish.

Wellington sucks - it's a giant one way round-a-bout. Nothing's open on a Friday night either.

I didn't think Christchurch was too bad.

Chch pisses on Welly and Aucks for getting around and pretty much everything. By a massive factor.

And don't have any friends outside of city. Basically if you are a hipster - yeah Auckland City is good place to live. But if you want to get around, without a car it is impossible to get to places in sane manner without spending $$$ on taxis. I tell my friends that live in City that they are antisocial as to visit them it costs me $8 of parking.

I dont have a car in wellington and i still get around everywhere no trouble. The public transport down here is pretty good. And all the important stuff is only a short walk away.

Compared to other overseas cities Auckland isn't too bad to get around in. End of the day a large chunk of NZ's population lives in Auckland - it's always going to be harder to get around/find parking than Chch.

You should count yourself lucky to be allowed in the CBD at all with a car without having to pay for the privilege. I always used to just park in areas on the city fringe and walk/bus into the city if I had to. Newmarket/Epsom is only a half hour walk from the CBD or a coupla $$$ if you're lazy and insist on taking a bus.

Melb is 8 times the size of Auckland in terms of land area but doesn't have 8 times the population.....I'd be surprised if it wasn't easier to get around.

When I said other overseas cities I meant places like Greater London that is roughly the same size as Auckland yet has more people than all of NZ.
